Something I am learning after being on the Atkins diet for awhile is this:
I have something missing that is supposed to tell me when I am full. So,
I am coping with this lack of hormone or whatever it is by deciding with
my eyes/brain when I "should" be full.

I have been putting food on the plate and looking at it and saying, "That
ought to make me full." and then I eat that amount. No seconds. It is
kind of tough to do it this way because I don't feel full after eating the
meal! I never have. But, that's one of the reasons I got overweight, I
    think.

So, rather than go to the health food store and ask for Ghrelin or Leptin
or whatever it is I don't have enough of, I have decided to do it this
    way.

I have always wondered about people who can eat a meal and say, "Boy, I'm
stuffed!" I haven't had that experience. Oh, I've over eaten and then
later on feel miserable and wish Golden Corral never existed, but right
    after eating--no.

i am a small 5'3" gal and I have always been the same way. i don't get full.
of course i have almost 50lbs to lose now LOL but even when i am eating
healthy i don't get full so I do that too. I just say "that should do it"

I think you're right. I've been trying to slow down my eating habits
(helped by my wife saying, "slow down!". ;-). I've also been trying to
take some amount of food and then wait awhile to see whether or not I'm
full. I've noticed that many thin people -- like my mother -- will take
forever to eat food that I eat in about two nanoseconds.

I have the cure. Talk more. I eat fast. It was learned, because I
talked a lot and used to be the last person with food. But the
solution is to talk between bites.

yes, that too - i always ate fast. so i try to slow down and I make sure to
DRINK lots of water or seltzer before and if i feel hungry a little while
    after eating i drink more

I used to eat a whole meal without taking a break for a sip because there
was never the right time lol, like every bite was so perfect and about to be
followed by some other perfect bite I just couldn't break it up with a drink
    LOL

This whole thing...I never even considered. That I'm ALWAYS the first
person done has never equated with the fact that it enables me to eat more.
Or to want seconds, even when I know that what I put on my plate as "firsts"
was perfectly adequate. (And that eating seconds will lead to misery before
long.) Amazing that I never even made the connection...

A long time ago, I started putting the fork down between bites. that seems
to help slow me down a bit.

Good point! You could talk to space; just don't let too many people see
    you! ;-)

I've found it also helps to eat at a table, not in front of the TV.

Ahhh, I finally have an excuse to get my husband's stuff off the dining room
    table - lol!

That's true! Of course, having said that, if my wife is somewhere else, I
typically eat in front of the TV.
