Some pet food company should start an advertising campaign, "Contains no ingredients from China." That is, if any of them can make that claim.

I'm fortunate in that I haven't had any pets affected by the recall. My cat doesn't eat the original "in gravy" food cited in the products from Menu Foods out of Canada. Then when Purina got into the dry food recall it wasn't her prescription formula. I keep a stock of it on hand anyway so it wasn't within the manufacture dates. I've NOT heard of any human food gluten products being affected, despite what SQWERTZ (posting under yet another of his many names which I keep killfiling, daily) seems to think.

Had you read the cite, you'd know that "food grade" wheat gluten (ie food for HUMANS) from China has now been tracked down as the source of the problem. This is new information, not old news. Just an FYI.

SOB... Well, I almost knew this could happen. So far... on the pet food issue, I'm still lucking out. Gawd only knows what human foods we've all eaten that might possibly be contaminated. This thing is going to be enourmous and will most likely trace to someone in DC. Wonder who the fall person is going to be this time?

Until there are more answers, I've stopped eating wheat gluten or any baked goods of unknown composition. (Particularly things like pizza are likely to have wheat gluten added.)

Maybe they have a pet foods division?
Up until a few years ago Heinz had a large pet food division and they were running it in a reputable fashion. They had comprehensive inspection & QC and even had a large number of animals in the facility to sample the food (mainly for quality/taste). I had a tour of one of their facilities when my buddy's company did a large equipment installation. Heinz got out of pet foods because Walmart was their major customer and they wouldn't lower their quality to met their price point.
