I used to go kayaking at Stanley to Grandtully.
We used to drive up through the Sma Glen, that was in the days before
the new A9. Yes, a lovely part of the world. Lang may yer wheels turn.

Took me just on 4.5 hours, so on that basis I should be able to finish
PforS firmly in the middle of the pack, as usual. For anyone interested in
the health of the British tourism industry, I note that I hardly saw a
living soul in some of our most beautiful countryside, in the heart of
summer.

Yes I do envy you for living up there. I will be on holiday in Kenmore at
the end of August, which is not too far from you. If you know any good
scenic cycle routes (up to about 60 miles, preferably visiting the hard to
get too areas with nice views) then I would be glad to hear them.

At Kenmore you're spoiled for choice. The ride round Loch Tay itself is
a lovely run of about 30 miles, although the A827 can be a bit busy at
times. Further north, there's a fine ride round Loch Rannoch, taking in
the ride out to Rannoch station in the wilds of Rannoch moor. Even
better is the ride through lonely Glen Lyon which can be accessed from
Kenmore, going via Fortingall. I did hear recently that the steep
downhill section near Ben Lawers has become a bit gravelly and needs a
little care on the descent.

If you prefer to ride off-road, there's a good Sustrans route south from
Killin via Glen Ogle to Lochearnhead, Strathyre, Callander and
Balquhidder (tea and cakes at the Library tearoom :-) ). The local
Tourist Information Centre should also be able to provide a copy of
"Selected cycle routes in Highland Perthshire". These routes tend to be
shorter than your target at around 20 - 30 miles, but are worth taking a
look at.

Finally, if you have the legs for it, there's a beautiful road direct
from Kenmore through Glen Quaich to Amulree, with return by the A826 via
Aberfeldy. But it's steep, as in really quite steep.
