The Astana cycling team has just released the following information:
The Astana Cycling Team had been informed today by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) that his german rider Matthias Kessler (28) had been positively controlled to testosterone on April 24th 2007 by a surprise control in Charleroi (BEL).
The rider has five days to request a second assessment. According to Matthias Kessler “this result is for me inexplicable and I will immediately require a second assessment”.
Until the result of this B-analysis, Matthias Kessler is suspended by the team with immediate effect.
That sucks! I like Kessler he always seemed to have a lot of heart regardless.
Yes me to...... but another one from T-Mobile and Astana drug crowd..... oh well... he did impress me on the mountains last year..... and doing backflips and landing on his head in break-aways...... looks like those surprise controls are working for the men in black..... this won't help Vino......

I think he would have helped Kloden in the tour but lets see who is left for the prologue. We may need get a license real quick to help fill up the peloton. Is Geritol considered an illegal PED? 😄
Well no one from Astana have signed.... I guess there all waiting till the final minute... just in case they were picked up in drug controls pre-Tour.....

It doesn't really suprise me, and it's also clear from where this wind is blowing...
Ok, I will start training my TT skills tomorrow, do you think that's early enough for the prologue ?

Maybe he just drank a beer and a few shots of whiskey the night before the test. 😉

This is from two months ago. Are there other positives from surprise controls that will be revealed before the TdF? It sounds like the UCI has targetted several riders and caught a few of them.
Was Kessler already named for the Tour squad? The reason I ask, if you recall last year, Vino was ousted because he lacked the minimum required number of riders after OP exploded. I don't know the specifics for why he couldn't just pick someone else from his team, so there must be a "deadline" as to when riders can be replaced. Anyone know how that works? Is Vino already short 1 rider?
Another one bites the dust! 😠 He was a fave of mine...
"While the UCI would not confirm that Kessler had been one of the 'men in black', Gripper did state last week that "We have picked out six or seven riders who are considered high-risk cases because of their suspect behaviour and subsequent good performances in the Tour de France." Kessler won stage three of the 2006 Tour while riding for the T-Mobile squad, but finished the race in 54th place, nearly two hours behind Floyd Landis in the general classification."

ah my favourite was when he crashed into that fencing on a descent in the 2004 or 2005 tour. Quite an impact he had with it!
