spencer, i do think bc wheeling has helped you with coasting in a very
indirect fashion...i think perhaps it taught you the basic motions
required, although bc wheeling and coasting on a unicycle are
*very*different....on the bc wheel, you place your weight below the
axel, (a bc wheel continues rolling after an UPD, but a unicycle just
sorta bounces away..)but when you coast on a uni your entire body is
above the wheel itself(exeption-during a 1-foot coast the lower leg may
be hanging down by the wheel) making for rather different balance
mechanisms
an indirect aproach to coasting on a uni that somone could try might be
to raise the plate on a bc wheel higher and higher, until it was
actually above the axel and the person trying this was standing
somwhere around the upper part of the wheel(somone doing this may need
a bar to hold to give them some controll of where the plate was in
relation to their body, probably the reason for no one trying this
before) and they were using the same balance mechanism required for
coasting on a unicycle....
however, i think the best aproach is to -just go for it-
like with wheelwalking, i started out next to a wall just to learn the
basic foot motions, then moved into the open and started wheelwalking
from a freemount...eventualy i got it(sort of, after i can coast for a
ways i'll practice wheelwalking some more)
On an unrelated note:
If you were to create a machine that caused your center of gravity to
actually be below the ground,( besides being rather weighed down by it,
obviously) no balance would be required to do, well, anything at all!!
you would need as much balance as somone hanging from a loose rope,
compared to one standing on it...just a thought🙄
