The Blackwall Tunnel northbound has been closed for 17 hours after an asbestos spill. The whole of South East London is in gridlock.
No better day than today for cycling.

Not so busy, I think they had cleared the tunnel and thus any gridlock by 08.30 or so.
Interesting video. When I was in London I commuted north of the river, but the traffic looks about the same. :-)

I kept thinking that he was about to mount the kerb he was riding so close to it! I used to commute along that way once, except I was always doing that part of the journey at about 6:45, much more pleasant! -- Chris
I've just calculated your average speed. From Southwalk Town Hall at 2:16 to Vassall Road at 5:49 the distance is 1750m. You averaged 7.5m/s, or 16.8mph. That included one brief stop at traffic lights, having to swerve to avoid a numpty driver and cutting up one hapless cyclist innocently pottering at 6mph. ;-)
I was taking it slow on the second half of that stretch because of the volume of traffic, I didn't feel I could go faster safely. I'm not at all fast either, mind, that was mostly due to a strong tailwind that day. (I averaged 20mph in the Berlin marathon on my skates in the last two years, and that's not fast either, the front pack were closer to 26mph).
