My "nice" bike has a Campag 10sp chain on it, a Chorus Ultra narrow
one with the HD linking method. I would like to be able to easily
remove the chain for cleaning etc; on my Shimano bikes I've put SRAM
chain on with a powerlink. Can I do this for Campy 10's? Or maybe
(being a poor student) I could just pop a link out of my existing
chain and replace with a removable link?
There are Wipperman Connex chains in Campag 10 speed, and those have a
re-usable quick-link. They come in a couple of widths for Campag 10 speed,
though (apart from not mixing bits within a chain), I think either 10 speed
type will fit.
I have one on the shelf for the time when my newest bike needs it's stock
Campag chain removing. I also have a spare Connex link as I was told it can
be used to rejoin the Campag chain, no idea if this will work yet (I'll
decide when its off & cleaned whether it is worth refitting)
The SRAM 10 speed chain has a one-use quick-link, so not much better/worse
than stock Shimano/Campag chains, except that a special tool for fitting is
not required.
