I work for a large association in IT. My department provides all the computer services necessary at our many conferences held all over the world. Being the head honcho, I get to choose the locations I want to travel to. I now choose places that offer good MTB locations close by and tack on a few vacation days to romp around.
I will be heading off to the Big Island of Hawaii in February. Has anyone done MTBing there? I would like to find an internediate level guided day tour with single track and mild DH. I have seen a tour that shuttles to the top of Mauna Kea and then it's a very fast DH on cinder and pavement from 13,000 feet to 6,000 feet. While my heart is in DH, this does not present enough technical challenge to excite me. Additionally, it's very cold and snowy up there in December. So, I'd rather stay below the top and do some single tracking in the forests or by Volcano National Park.

I've never MTB'd there (done some roadie rides, which were very nice for roadie stuff) but be sure to do some diving or snorkeling. My favorite dive site there was the Place of Refuge. There's a great wall you can dive from about 30' all the way down to the 110' sandy bottom. Lots of neat changes on the way down and on my last dive there a big ray came up from the depths at the bottom and had a good look at us. It was very cool.

I've only ridden around the North shore of Oahu. Slimy-wet roots can be tricky!

I've been to Upplands Vasby a couple of times this year, but never longer than a couple of days, which means no chance to bring the bike 🙁
There was a guy from New York that came over for a couple of days this summer. He put an addie in my club Forum and somebody set him up with a bike so he could join us on a couple of clubrides. www.Fredrikshof.se I'm sure the people in Uppsala may have something similar. Upplands Väsby is right inbetween and I think the MTB riding is probably lots better in Uppsala.

We have some amazingly fine technical singletrack in Lunsen lowdin.nuEnglish.htmlOpen ↗ It is approximately 35 km north of Upplands Väsby, send a message next time if you manage to get lose and got a bike.
