Baggys?

I have a pair of Fox's and another noname freerider brand. Neither
bunch up but the Fox's are cut funkily and even though I don't have
large quads they're really restrictive. The noname pair are baggier so
I catch them on the nose of my saddle a little more often but they have
great pockets, and they're warm in the winter. The major problem with
these shorts is they have a cotton-based liner which just never dries
out like lycra and such.

As Matt said, the pockets are great, with good pockets for short rides
on my 'cross bike I can throw my keys, wallet, and spare tube in my
pocket and jump on the bike and go. For long rides I can put my small
camera and snacks in an easy to reach location.

There are short versions as well if you prefer.

I've had lots of brands, but like my Nemas the best, Zoic 2nd and
Pearl Izumis 3rd. I have a few others that have caught on my
seatpost QR and almost killed me. Another pair (Precaryous?) kept
grabbing my legs and adding a ton of resistance to pedalling. Good

I'll second the Nemas especially since they are majorly durable. Even
so, baggies are a lot hotter than lycra (especially for Matt who
thinks 50 degrees is oven-like), so you may not like them for that
reason. I have a lighter set of Azonic shorts that work well when it
gets hotter and save the Nemas for cooler temps.

reason. I have a lighter set of Azonic shorts that work well when it
gets hotter and save the Nemas for cooler temps.

I took a chance and ordered from Hoss online. Jerseys and baggies, so far
they have been excellent. They have 6 pockets and two that zip shut. I
like to keep my camera handy.

I don't know where the Oakley pockets are, but I've had a couple pairs
of Sugois and Swobos with 'cargo' pockets on the sides. They're good
for a Powerbar or something, but having stuff swing around in your
pockets while pedalling gets pretty annoying. And, in case you biff,
don't put your keys or cell phone in there. The shorts' durable nylon
shells also made them uncomfortably hot.

I don't know where the Oakley pockets are, but I've had a couple pairs

Yeah, my shorter Oakleys are better for riding the SS because when I
really spin with the longer shorts on and stuff in the pockets, it is
pretty irritating. Both pairs have one zipper pocket, so valuables go in
that pocket without much fear of them flying out. But if I bring my keys
with me I clip them into my pack. I generally just put stuff I'm likely
to want to grab quickly in the shorts pockets, like gels & bars.

I wear these http://www.mocean.net/shorts_1050.asp all the time. I
started wearing them when patrolling, but they are so comfortable I wear
them for regular trail riding. Not cheap but worth the price IMHO.
They last forever.

Funny lycra story:

Some of you have met my brother. He's really intense and a very
competitive roadie and XTerra Triathlete. There was a benefit road ride
last summer that I couldn't make because I was in the process of moving,
but my bro and a bunch of friends and local hammerheads did it.
There was a group photo taken, and my bro was standing in front, which
is how he always likes to position himself. He's wearing his lycra
shorts (he doesn't "do" baggies) and the light was just right so his
"junk" is perfectly visible through his shorts, with remarkable detail.
The photo makes the front page of the paper and we laugh about it. Then
on the expert class starting line of one of our very competitive local
"fun" races, the "Racers Ready..." warning is said and Dave Weins says
"Hey, nice picture of your unit in the paper!" and the whole group busts
up laughing as they say "Go!". Dave takes off and establishes a good
lead right off the line.
Probably funnier if you were there. Man, I was doubled over (and luckily
racing sport so I didn't have to try and start like that. Or race Dave,
my bro, and others who regularly destroy me).

They are fantastic! You pay an extra $7 and they sew the Chamois in. I
have not chaffed yet. They are loose and very breathable. No sweating
at all and good A/C for the jewels. Plus they have pockets and belt
loops if you need them.

They look real cool too. And if you have a NMBP jersey tucked in you
look all official and stuff.
