Question: how high is your air pressure

i'm thinking about letting out some of my tire air, right now it is at
45, i weight 120 lbs, i was wondering ppl's weights and their tire
pressure, then tipss on it, like the jumps it can take, how much does
    it help your jump? ect...

  2. What wheel (rim) and tire are you using?

  3. The "best air pressure" is not a number. Usually it's what you need to
either keep your rim off the ground, if you're doing that sort of
riding, or to maximize performance while minimizing friction (regular
riding, Freestyle). Determining this amount is a factor of the riding
you're doing, the terrain (slippery gym floor or pointy rocks), tire
width and rider weight. That'll get you in the ballpark, then you tweak
it from there. Don't use someone else's numbers, they might not work
    for you.

Uh, plus most tire pressure gauges, especially the ones built into
pumps, just aren't very accurate anyway.

Air pressure at sea level is 15 PSI, does this mean people who are
riding with 10-15 PSI in their tires have a lower pressure in their
    tires than the air outside?

Such a scenario would suggest that they have created a vacuum in the
tire and if they take the valve cap off the inner tube will suck in
    air.

Unless of course they are riding at high altitude.

    jim

    dah, NO
at TRUE 15 PSI your tire has absolutely no air in it.
at comparative 15 PSI your tire would truly have 30 psi

that is the basics of it, not including the elasticity of the
tube/tire, but yeah thats how it works

as far as the original intent of this thread goes, put 22psi(give or
take 2lbs) in it, and see if you like it, lower it, lower it, lower it,
testing at each step until you bottom it out, and put the amount that
you liked the most in it.

btw-only let a little out at a time, you are letting out more than you
    think.

  6. I had 11 psi for a while, and that was WAY too low. I put it up to 13.5,
and it was still too low for me. This is on my 24x3 MUni, and I weigh
145-150. I have about 18-20 now, something like that and it works
pretty well. But remember that pressure decreases as temperature
decreases, so you need to put more air into your tire in the winter,
that is provided you live someplace cold like me. Its really personal
prefrence though, do what skobo suggested with the letting out air
slowly, and see what you like best.

  7. I weigh 85 pounds.

I'm on a DX32 rim and a creepy crawler. (I'm thinking about a luna or
echo tire though, my creepy crawler has been cracking)

I ride urban trials and some street(not techy though).

I run my tire at 25-27PSI.

From what I gather on the forums, I run my tire really high compared to
    my weight.

I find that for pre-hopping and such it is really good. I think that
people who run their tires low should give high pressure a try.

Another reason that I ride my tire with high pressure is that alot of
my trials obstacles (that I built) have skinny parts and corners.

People commonly interchange PSI and PSIG (gauge, or compared to
atmosphere) when talking tire pressure. PSI can be used to mean either
PSIA (absolute) or PSIG (gauge) depending on context although this is a
loose description of the pressure if a tire is over atmospheric
    pressure.

I run 18 psig in my Gazz on my Muni and about 20 psig in the tire on my
KH trials. Both tubes are fairly robust and I bottom them often. I have
pinch flatted on the Gazz once and broken a spoke on the KH. I'm about
    190 lbs.

If you are going to make a meaniful poll (which itself is an oxymoron)
you should specify type of riding, tire size, and rider weight.

  15. A year ago, I was riding at 16 PSI on a 24X3. Any higher pressure than
that, I would find myself getting thrown off when I would ride over
roots and small rocks. As my riding has improved, I've increased my
pressure up to 21 PSI and am riding over stuff that I couldn't get over
a year ago. I especially like the higher pressure when I'm riding the
smooth sections. I'm able to ride faster with less drag.

Has anyone else found that they have increased their tire pressure as
    their technique improved?

  16. Wow this poll actually is useless... With or without the fact that we
could be discussing tire pressures in 24X3" muni's, 24X2.6" muni's
(which is what the 24" DX is) or 19" trials tires as if they were the
    same.

Heck, for all we know he could have the older DX with the 20X2.125 wide
    tire.

well, technically you could do trials w/ no pressure, or no tire on
that thought, lets just say it would be a BIT more challenging, but
    only a bit.
