Aldi/lidl have done cheap ones, but I've no experience - not being a bike
shop I'm reluctant to let those in the queue know that I want padded
underwear :-/

I wear these often, when cycling to a pub or somewhere else where
lycra would be inappropriate. They do the job. Several makes available
on Wiggle and most similar sites. I think most of them are fine but
avoid those which are mostly cotton (eg Altura) - they get damp and
soggy in use and they take longer to dry, which is important when
touring.

Great for cycling, I use them all the time, but hot and sweaty when you
stop.

30 years ago I didn't either, but after a long break and a return the
padding does make things more comfortable, and why not be comfortable.
