I will point out that ACC weighs less per unit volume than carbon fiber
composite. Maybe the techno-geek bicycle folks will fall for it as the
newest thing in lightweight biking. And for the guy trying to braze up
his own frame, he can use his woodworking hand tools to shape an ACC frame.

I was thinking more along the lines of tantalum or tungsten.

covered with a barrier that stops alpha radiation (intact powder
coating would likely be sufficient) and not ingested. The real danger
comes from DU when it burns and forms oxide particles that can be
inhaled.

alpha rays that can be stopped by paint. However in
2000-10000 years U238 (half life 4e9 years) decay
products build up to hazardous levels.
