For those down south who don't understand, Queensland big, real big (ok
WA is bigger). Currently there are about 500,000 to 750,000 people
living north of the Tropic of Capricorn. These lucky individuals have
an average of 9.5 or more hours full sunlight between September and
March (it peaks in October and reduces into the wet season due to
clound). Now this does not include dawnlight and twilight. Generally
they couldn't care less if the time is not the same as it is in Sydney,
they're smart enough to add an hour if it matters:-)
It don't fade your curtains but you want to stay out of it as much as
possible (continous extreme UV for 6 months and it's a little warm)
In actual hours of sunlight places like Mt Isa will have almost 14 hours
of usable light as the longest day approaches. Strangely daylight
saving is not an issue. Keeping out of temps above 32C (or 45C in the
Isa) is. Having kids leave school at 14:00 (which is 15:00 under
daylight saving) is pretty brainless when this is the hottest part of
the day.
Even now if I leave get home at say 18:00 I'll have at least 1/2 hour to
ride without lights. By the end of November this will be an hour. I
don't need sundown to be at 20:00 thanks.
If people in the Southeast want it so bad then give us a separate state.
The population of North Queensland (as a state) will be equal to or
exceed the population of WA, SA, Tas and NT over the next 10 to 15
years. Of course this won't happen because NQ State would include
almost all of the metalliforous mining, most of the coal, most of the
metals production, significant amount of all heavy engineering, ship
building, the largest army base in the country and a heap of very
valuable agricultural output (and some really useless stuff called sugar
cane). It's the only place in Qld to produce Ethanol as well (not sure
if that matters). Oh and we have water as well. Most of the highest
wage postcodes are also in the north (near the mines). Without NQ the
rest of Queensland has the economy of Tasmania with 3 times the
population. That would not be good.
All of this and I can't find a custom frame builder damn it.
