  1. Does anyone have a light which they attach to their helmet? I was going into work this morning &
couldn't see what gear I was in as it was, amazingly, dark. A thought that a light attached to my
    helmet would solve the problem.

Why do you need to see what gear you are in?

If its too hard change down, too easy change up. Simple.

Petzl is the brand of choice. Get one with a belt-loop battery pack, or the battery will weigh your
head down. I've used one for a couple of years and it is one of my favourite bike accessories,
especially when picking my way along a country lane at night.

Thank you - will search for one.

The new Cateye EL400 looks pretty good and specifically designed to mount on a bicycle helmet which
    the Petzl is not.

Nice. Has anyone tried cycling at a depth of 50m?

You can get bike computers that give you a digital readout which shows the gear you are in
    like this:

Petzl LED tikka head lamps are very light (70g) including batteries and perfectly adequate for
walking in the dark so certainly ok for seeing what gear you're in. Don't think they quite give out
enough light for riding with though unless you go very slowly. I always take one along as a back up.

Even neater still: The Petzl Zipka. This is probably one of the most useful tools in my toolbox, and
I use it for most plumbing or electrical jobs. (as well as cycling, camping, car maintenance, home
dentistry.... :-o If you find it doesn't do what you want on your helmet, I doubt you'd regret
buying it anyway. (Or put it on your xmas list. Its also a good present for blokes.). I think I saw
them in Evans Cycles the other day for 29.99 which is a bit cheaper than normal. And if you're
debating between the Tikka and then Zipka: The Zipka's 'head string' is perfectly comfortable,
despite it not looking so, Dz

Just picked up an Ellis Brigham catalogue (walking + camping gear)...Zipkas are now listed as the
same price as Tikkas...£24.99 (used to be about £3 more). They've also brought out a new Tikka Plus
with 4 LEDs instead of the original 3, choice of power outputs and what looks like a proper
    adjustable headmount from the picture....£29.99

Yes (except I wear a hat not a helmet).

It is one of those key-fob bright white LEDs which I bolted to the _top_ side of the peak. Reach for
the brim and press and there you are. Note _top_. This is because you get blinded by your own light
    otherwise.

I find it interesting to guess how fast I think I'm coming back from the pub then have a flash to
    see. Generally 🙁

Izza LED flavour - not sure about that. I have an Opticube front light and it gives off nowhere near
the light of my halogen Petzl, which also has adjustable beam width. Anyone tried the Cateye as a
    head torch?

I wish someone would make a cycling light based on those 5W Lumiled Luxeon LEDs. They're meant to be
excellent for illumination and not just for being seen. Does anyone know if anybody makes them? They
also sell these LEDs 'as is' but I'm not very good with electronics so don't want to waste £12 on
    something I'll probably break.
