I wish someone would make a cycling light based on those 5W Lumiled Luxeon LEDs. They're meant to be excellent for illumination and not just for being seen. Does anyone know if anybody makes them?
They're definitely being developed (tinyurl.comr9t4Open ↗ for details of a home-brew version) and it can't be long before the big manufacturers bring some lights out using them. The benefits over halogen are just *so* great they'd storm the market place.

They also sell these LEDs 'as is' but I'm not very good with electronics so don't want to waste ?12 on something I'll probably break.
I suspect www.martin-jones.com may be what you're looking for.
I'm not entirely convinced by that website. It claims the LEDs are several times as efficient as halogen bulbs, but googling suggests only 23 lumens per watt which doesn't sound particularly brilliant (for colours, it's better, but that isn't relevant to front bicycle lights). What am I missing?

Just looked at www.ultraleds.co.uk available for 11.50 UKP. They look quite interesting things!

Those are the 1W ones but even so would be fun experimenting, if a little expensive if you are prone to breaking things, like me.
