  1. Hi All,

Looking for opinions, recently started cycling seriously back at the start of the summer season. I had some serious gains, but over the past month, ive cut back due to lack of motativation and familly issues. Since I left college about 2years ago, I had lost 30+lbs and have an aim for 155 at 5'10". However, since the lack of training, I have gained a good amount of weight back, (from 172 to 177). I have noticed a drastic increase in the cravings for sweets. I am not entirely sure. Does anyone else experience this? I try to fight them but often give in to a Dunkin Doughnuts Iced Coffee with skim milk and splenda. Any advice on motativation or the like would be great all.

    Thank you,

  2. indulge your sweet tooth after every work out, give yourself a good 20+ grams of hi GI sugars see if that helps

Good hint... Following the GI is a cyclist's best friend. Post workout, your body needs high GI foods and protein... So slurp down some whey or tuna, and enjoy your sweet of choice (in moderation of course).

    Thank you,

I am right there with you. I have the worst cravings for sweet foods/ desert type foods...

I usually give in, I have at least curtailed the issue to oatmeal raisin cookies.. but that is only sometimes.

umm are you sure? Whey and Tuna are primarily protien, therefore not really relevent to GI at all as they arenot carbs? 😕

  6. It appears to me like your sweet cravings have more to do with what is going on in your personal life. You said you have cut back on training this past month due to some family issues and lack of motivation...

I would say the best thing you can do for yourself is to get back out there and train. Exercise always makes life look brighter, and I have a feeling the sweet cravings will be less intense. But even if they stay, as long as you keep training and eating sweets in moderation you should be just fine.

FYI - Stress always leads to a sweet tooth for me. Next time you have a craving, pay attention to how you are feeling emotionally.

  7. Proteins sorta have GIs too.

Whey is the highest, its at peak blood amino acid concentration within 30 minutes, hydrolized whey is the fasted folowed by isolate and concentrate. Whey is good after excercise for this reason becaue not only is glycogen synthase most active after excercise but protein synthesis is also. Most other proteins are moderate digesting and are at peak blood levels at 1 and a half hours. Casein(the other milk protein milk is 80% casein and 20% whey) digests very slowly so bodybuilders eat it before bed, usually in the form of cottage chese and some fat source to slow digestion even further.
    Whey-pre,during,post workout fast
    everything else-all the time medium
    casein- before bed slow

  8. can i mix whey and amino acids tablets. or just tablets and whey after gym ?

  9. If they aren't in your kitchen, you won't have trouble. So don't buy them 🙂

  10. Mixing anything into these shakes except fiber and fats can't harm you. fiber and fats just slow digestion. I take tons of bcaa with my pwo shake.

    Thank you,

From what you say....I'm going out on a limb here,
Lack of motivation and imbalance family issues/commitments are not good. I don't think the donuts and food you eat are the problem. But I know donuts are comfort food for alot of ppl. Sometimes we get caught up in a whole bunch of things and lose sight of what life is about.

Changes are gradual, I found that it was easy to make excuses for ones actions rather than focus on goals. My friend had the same problem his wife refused to give him extra time from his family and commitments. Rather than blame them he just got up 1 hour earlier to do his exercise. Like him I focus on what I don't want. "to be overweight and unhealthy" I find being overweight and unfit makes me more lazy and miss out a whole lot more in life. Being healthier/ fitter allows me to be more alert and more effective in everything I do including work, socially and home/family commitments.

    There could so many factors I dont know about your life but here are some random things;

    - If you can't motivate yourself maybe consider a personal trainer? They won't put up with your excuses and are great motivators.
    - Write a list of goals and read them everyday stick it up on your fridge, next to your computer at work. Beside your bed etc. Sometimes we forget why do do things.
    - Get up an hour earlier everyday to excercise or do other things.
    - Learn to prioritise
    - Don't keep sweets at home or at work.
    - Take your lunch/snacks to work I eat the same thing for lunch everyday Rice/Tuna/Broccoli. This takes away my decision process and room for conflict.
    - Cut out things that don't add value to your life.
    - One day a week eat whatever you like.
    - Set aside time to do what you enjoy.
    - Unplug the TV
    - Hang around more positive goal orientated people sometimes it rubs off.
    - Get outside help if you need to sort out family issues.

At this stage you need stronger affirmations. Look at what is important to you and write them down and put them in front of you to remind you constantly read them every morning and night for a month.

and dont forget try HAVE FUN in everything you do.
