long time before we see a rider pull off anything more spectacular than
that. We literally did not know the winner until the last seconds. I think

Well, you could say that we won't know the winner until Pereiro's time
goes 31 seconds outside Landis' time on Saturday.

Of course, Landis has twice the distance to make up roughly half the
time gap Lemond did, so even if he wins by only 1 second, it won't be
as spectacular as Lemond's victory in '89.

But, Lemond didn't have to come back from an 8:08 deficit in one stage
to get back into contention, so maybe it's advantage Landis, after all.

This is the sort of ride done by a Merckx or a Hinault. I sure never did
anything like that. These past two days - yesterday's big loss, coupled with
today's heroic ride - puts him up there with the real heroes of the Tour. -
