  1. Hi guys,

So I've seen the damned Renault ad about a hundred times now. It's fairly obvious that sausage represents German cars, sushi represents Japanese cars, and bread stick represents French cars, but wtf is the deal with the crispbread?

    Cheers,

    Suzy

Oh, I've been watching that and now see the meaning has just slipped by me.
German, Jap and Swedish cars break up, but French cars bend and bounce back.
D'oh!! Must be all the sleep deprivation of le tour viewing.

Speaking of which the highlights are on now! Gone.

  6. I suppose the next question is: Why is the sausage full of fluffy stuffing?
    😕

Have you noticed the Skins ad changes for the prime time & late-night? No mention of massage parlours at 6pm......

  7. Thought it was Swedish, ie: Volvos. What has been really bugging me - is it real food or a mock up?

You won't get those sorts of explosions with real food. Someone has had
a ball making the ad, that's for sure.

What is worrying me is: is it giant food or a tiny crash test set up?

UK. See Orwell in /Wigan Pier/ for the origin of the crisp-bread.

Brother, a Francophile, explains that the bread stick would need to be
at least a day old to bend like that. Renault: safe but stale.

I didnt realise poking yoghurt and stretching mozarella were extreme sports resulting in broken bones. I'll be more respectful of my daily dose of yoghurt now!

Ah the English language, where should I have placed those commas?

The immediate thought when I saw the crisp-bread was Ry-vita. Surely its a reference to something Scandanavian.

We have a fairly recent arrival from Sweeden here (another food proder and poker) perhaps I'll ask him.

Oh, I dunno. You can see the shockwaves propogating through.
Remember these are slowed down thousands of times -- the impact
    velocity is enormous!

Every time I see that ad it makes me laugh. I can't help but think the
    Mythbusters must love it.

I'm now paranoid about consuming bratwurst, sushi and crispbread, lest
they do similar things in my gut.

Whoooosh... The significance of the different food items went over my
head. All I could think of was thank goodness they don't have ads on
    the ABC.

    Yet.

You missed the outcry a month back when the new management were
    seriously considering it?

SBS was once relatively recently completely ad free. Then they showed
ads for future shows, between shows. Then they showed commercial ads
between shows. Now they're showing commercial ads in shows.

ABC are already up to step 2. I give it a couple of years tops.

I was reading that ads earn SBS $19M annually. And I was reading
something written by one SBS staff who seriously didn't think that
this would then lead the government to reduce the next grant by $19M,
because SBS can now "better support itself". Idiots, the lot of them.
