They sprint so hard they make the ground blur! The camera shutter moves at and with the speed of the lead rider not the wheels. Since the spokes are traveling at a different speed than the riders they appear distorted. Or something like that.

Not the same phenomenon. The bicycle wheels are not distorted in the same way. The finish line camera takes one pixel wide photographs of the finish line many time a second. The composite image is a graph of the finish line over time where each vertical stripe of pixels has a clock time associated with it.

So what's the best way as viewers to reduce the warp effect - run fast or sit on our thumbs and rotate?
