Me. If anyone wants a riding partner leaving at about 8.30pm, 16-17mph,
give me a shout. I need moral support for the difficult 10pm-midnight
shift. If it helps, I have a SON/E6 setup, a good map and I did it last

I shan't be there either, as this year it's on a second Sunday, which
means Tandem Club. Although this Tandem Club ride will be ridden on a
solo(1) as Mrs. Hall will be tending the sick (Daughter is having
frankly scary maxilliary surgery tomorrow).

(1) Last weekend was a TC camping weekend. Mrs. Hall mutinied on the
Sunday at the thought of baking temperatures, so I rode the Pino solo.
This was interesting as the front wheel tended to lift as I went up
hill.

I'll be there, on a rusty-old-needs-a coat-of-paint homebuild
recumbent.
Mate of mine will be present with his very nicely painted Trice.

If I'm still interested, I might have a crack at the return trip next
year.

Won't be doing the 16-17mph another poster promised. :-)

Third time for me - I'll certainly be there - at least at the london
nend. Touch wood I'll be at the Dunwich end as well :-) Got my train
booked from Cambridge to london, and a bike space reserved rom darsham
back to liverpool street.

Unfortunately that means I have to finish by 08:45 - I just hope I
haven't got much slower than last year, or I'll be stuck :-)

I've been chavifying my bike, so it now resembles a flashing
multicoloured christmas tree. taste? who needs it!

Me neither - my average speed was a bit over 11mph last year. I'll be
on the '80p Special' - a black thing with Nexus 7 gears and hub dynamo.
Same bike as last year, but with sensible tyres this time.

I think several people on this group know Fergus Muir - he's planning to
do it for the first time; he'll be on a Mercian.

We had space reserved from Darsham all the way down to Crawley last
year.

We arrive at Darsham in good time. The train company (one I think)
that operate that line have a 2 bikes per train policy. The platform
already has around 30 cyclists on it. Train arrives, with driver
shaking his head. Cyclists pile on. Driver and conductor get out,
walk up and down, scratch heads, get on phone, scratch heads, walk up
and down.

Doors open. Conductor stick his head in: "Right we can do this. But
you'll have to put your bikes in first class." All the cyclists
extract themselves from the different places on the train and tetris
their bikes into the (empty) first class carriage. Mine has to ride in
the unused driver's cab at the rear of the train. Cyclists disport
themselves on luggage racks in first class. And off we trundle to
Ipswich.

I hope your train crew are as understanding this year.

I will be doing on my Thorn Brevet / SON Dynamo. My first Dunwich
Dynamo :-)

Could any of you tell me how it may take to cycle from Marble Arch to
Hackney at moderate pace? What route fo you recommend?

Oxford Street
New Oxford Street
Bloomsbury Way
Theobalds Road
Clerkenwell Road
Old Street
Hackney Road
Mare St

Much shorter and easier to navigate than the streets in the previous post.
But these are major roads.

North in Edgeware Road to Euston Road,
East on Euston Road Past Kings Cross,
Continue ahead into Pentonville Road,
Continue ahead into City Road to Old Street Roundabout,
East onto Old Street and Ophire Road,
Ahead into Hackney Road to cross roads of Cambridge Heath Road and
Bishops Way,
North in Cambridge Heath Road and then into Mare Street.

This has the advantage it cuts over the top of the center of London and
is quite a direct route.

Dunwich Dynamo. An overnight ride, very informally, if at all,
organised. Starts at London Fields, Hackney at 8 ish this evening, out
east through Epping Forest, and bits of Essex, then bimbles into
Suffolk, ending at Dunwich, a village washed into the sea. Arrival at
Dunwich varies from incredibly early 05:00 stylee to more sensible
07:00-08:00 ish.

Total distance is 185km IIRC, which is handy, as last year I thought
it was 200km. Finish with brekko in the beach cafe. Coaches are
available to get back, if you book in plenty of time. Other options
are train (see posts passim) or ride back, if you're deranged. Yes
Larrington, I'm looking at you.

What is this? This is the Dunwich Dynamo - leaves tonght at 2100 from
London Fields, arrives....some time later at Dunwich, near Ipswich -
approx 115 miles. Great fun, and free :-)
