Mavic crossmax freehub removal

Thx....i didn't realise that the end of the non-drive side was a
removable cap.

It looks like a pretty simple mechanism to me....do you have any hints
on oiling the pawls / surroundings?

I'm going to use some mobil one as recommended in a previous
thread.....

Just be really careful with that little spring-loaded chingus (technical
term) inside the doohickey (freehub body?). I spent hours trying to snip up
ball point pen springs to size until using my amazing skills of deduction to
find the miscreant (and diminutive!) boing-boinger. Had a silent hub for a
while...but it didn't work.

No real tips -- other than a /Q/ tip maybe to clean and/or grease stuff.

Are you having the dreaded death squeal? That's the only reason I ever open
mine up. (That and the fact that I hardly ever use the mtb any more 🙁 )

The mech has always made a loud chattering sound while freewheeling
since I bought the bike as a 'new-last-years-model' in Summer 2003.
The mech worked well so I left it and only decided to investigate the
issue this week as I was giving the bike a clean following a 600km tour
and is out of service waiting for a replacement part.

Now, when opening the mech up I found 'no' springs behind the two pawls
(!) I cleaned and lubed the parts and put it back together. On the
repair stand freewheeling noise is now a buttery smooth hum....and the
pawls still engage as normal when pedalling begins.

This is obviously not a reliable situation for cycling...so I'll be
contacting a dealer for a couple of springs.
