Quoted message said:So, I did my pool dives this weekend and had a great deal of fun. I
can't wait until I do my lake dives next week and I get my open water
certification.Anywho, air consumption by a diver is generally based upon how
comfortable the diver is underwater. Someone who is stressed or
panicky will burn through air like no tomorrow. It's the same for
someone who is cold or exerting themselves.Having said that, I noticed that the more muscle mass one has, the
more air one uses. At least, that is the conclusion I've drawn. We
had a kid that weighed about 110 and was nothing but skin and bone. He
barely used any air. We also had a slim chic (very cute too) who only
used a little more air than the kid. We also had a guy who was very
fat and had some trouble but he used less air than I did. I used the
most, BTW. Also, we had another guy who was rather tall and of normal
build. He weighed 220, he told me. He used nearly as much air as I
did.So, to summarize, of the ten students, it appeared to me that the most
air was consumed by the people with the most metabolically active
tissue. Any comments on this? Anyone every thought about air
consumption as it relates to muscle mass?
Makes sense, says me. I imagine it's not limited to air, either. You
probably eat a lot more than people half your size - gotta support your
body, whatever size it is. Big person = big consumer of what it takes to
survive.
