I've done a few posts at the Bacchetta Yahoo Group about a possible bike addition to my Aero. I've gotten a few funny... responses via the Yahoo Group and also through e-mails. So what the heck, might as well go ahead and post this to the a.r.b.r NG and let everyone chime in. ;-) <Grin> I'm into abuse... this evening.
What I've come up with is basically a Giro-Aero. (A name I coined) A Giro, with Velocity Thracian rims, Conti tires, M5 seat, and Bar con shifters; just like I have on my Aero. WHY another bike? Something to jump on during the week for short hops here and there. Yea, I could do that on my Aero, but there's SOMETHING about the Giro, I like. (Test rode one yesterday and it was a BLAST!) Perhaps the Volae Century is worth looking into? Geometry looks pretty similar to the Giro, and it comes standard with M5 seat and Thracian wheels. The seat is fiberglass, but I think you can upgrade to a carbon.
Yes I understand the desire for an "everyday bike" to complement the Aero.
Seems to me the Volae Team with all-dura Ace components and a carbon seat and 26 pounds at $2995 is a very strong competitor to the 24 pound Aero which costs about $900 more with Ultegra components.

I think you are making the right choice to outfit your new bike similarly to your Aero. While the bikes would handle differently, the set up is similar and is therefore familiar to you. I enjoy that same type of situation with my RANS Rocket commuter, my Barcroft Virginia performance bike (although it has the M5 seat) and our Barcroft Columbia tandem. While some like two totally different set ups (i.e. Tour Easy and a Giro), I have always felt more comfortable with the RANS set up, but each bike has its own temperment and handling characteristics so you really do get the feel of riding different bikes. Besides, with the Giro, you can make it that all purpose bike by adding fenders, a rack etc. Putting fenders on an Aero is like wearing brown shoes with a black suit. You can do it, it just doesn't seem to go.
Ken and Robert, I'm sure the Volae is a fine bike, BUT I'm really STUCK on the Bacchetta Bikes! Thanks for your responses though and yours too Mike. The ONLY thing I might not change for the time being would be the rims / tires. WHY, well, I want a bike that will give me a similar training type feel, like my Aero, BUT I really enjoyed how comfortable the Kenda tires (100 psi) rode. So while I can put up with a somewhat HARD ride on my Aero (NOT A BIG ISSUE mind you) I think I can still have the Aero training likeness, BUT with a lot more Comfy rolling down the road, kind of ride. Aero is spec'd, and I believe actually weighs, 22 pounds stock.
