Seems the Viets used to catch the little basa and put them in cages on
their boats on the Mekong. They'd feed them and after awhile, they'd be
big enough to eat.

seems the stuff that they export is 'farmed' anywhere and everywhere
there is room to do it. Usually in the irrigation channels between the
rice paddies. That is also the place that the Viets use to bathe, *and*
use as their toilet.

Personally, I wouldn't buy any "fresh" food that comes out of the water
over there. They are not the most hygenic people around.

Basa is a type of sole that comes frozen from
Vietnam, in the Mekong delta. Some argue it's
actually catfish. While that's true, taxonomically,
it tastes nothing like catfish. Treat it like
sole or flounder.

It's quite good for the price where I get it.
At $3 a pound it's a good buy. It takes smoke
well too, if you prep it right.

I won't touch the stuff. Comes from Viet Nam and the waters are often
used as toilets. BLEH!!
