  1. I have been recording calories as well as carbs while doing the LC, and I
can tell, as some of you advised, alcohol has really hindered weight loss.
I was at 273lbs at the beginning of this two week period. Now I am at 267.
I should have lost about 10lbs. So, to all the nay sayers I say you are
    right
in that alcohol in INDUCTION is bad juju, but I did not completely stop
    loosing weight.

    Calories DO count...

    1 gram carb = 4 calories
    1 gram alcohol = 7 calories

  3. No one, including myself, said that you should drink during Induction. You
said you read The Low Carb Bartender? The book explains repeatedly that
drinking during Induction is ill-advised. And 4 beers on 5-18 and 3 ounces
of booze plus six beers on 5-10? The Low Carb Bartender is all about
MODERATION, not cheating. Go back and read the book again.

Doesn't matter if the carb count of Rock Green Light is 2.4 carbs, not if
you're going to drink six of them. The recommended daily allowances for beer
are no more than two 12-ounce servings, for distilled products no more than
two 1.5-ounce servings, and for wine no more than two 5-ounce servings.

Still and all, you lost 6 pounds while drinking.

  4. The fact that you "only" lost 6 lbs in 2 weeks vs your expected 10lbs
doesn't prove anything one way or the other about alcohol. Weight
loss rates vary during different time periods for everyone and 3lbs per
week is a good rate to be losing weight for someone your size. Your
starting weight is listed as 280. You say you lost 6 lbs in this 2
week alcohol test period and are now at 267. That means that prior to
this test, you weighed 273. In other words, prior to this you lost a
grand total of 7lbs. in some unspecified time period, which is hardly a
basis for concluding that you should be consistently losing at the rate
of 10lbs every 2 weeks. Plus, the initial weight loss during
induction is almost always faster during the first week due to one time
water loss and that rate can't be sustained. IMO, that is largely what
    you are seeing here.

Note that I'm not saying anyone should be drinking alcohol during
induction, which I think is a bad idea. Or that drinking 9 oz of
alcohol in a day won't interfere with weight loss. I'm just saying
that based on faulty data for one person, this doesn't say anything
about alcohol one way or the other.

  5. Perfection was not my goal. However, it does appear drinkers can improve
    upon
    their weight.

For whatever evaluative clarity may be gleaned, I will further explain:
Yes, I started this two weeks at 273lbs. I list 280 because this is my
    highest weight,
which coincided with a new years resolution. I did INDUCTION earlier this
    year
and I did not have any alcohol for the two weeks. I lost 8-10lbs. The scale
    I
have at my disposal is not very easy to read. It is a digital that tends to
    bounce
around in the tenths place with a swing of around 1.2lbs. I continued eating
lower carb foods though I was not eating LC. Weight crept back up to 273lbs
before I got started again. As far as water weight loss is concerned, I'll
take all I can get! Maybe you are right about that, but if the weight
continues to come off at whatever rate, I'll be happy. I know for a fact I
can loose 6-8lbs of water weight in just one day of heavy work. It always
returns within 72 hours. Time will tell.

The above is still unclear to me. But it sounds like your basis for
thinking you should lose 10lbs every two weeks is based on your
experience during the first 2 weeks of induction which you did LC back
in Jan, before falling off the wagon. And you say you lost 8-10 lbs.

Now you apparently are starting over again, but using alcohol during
induction. This time, you lost 6lbs., which is not unusual either.

    Quoted message said:

From that limited data from one person, I would say it's impossible to

conclude anything about alcohol and weight loss. Especially since some
days you were drinking 9+ drinks. Just the calories alone amount to
half of what many consume for an entire days menu. So, the same effect
could have resulted if you consumed those additonal calories from a
food, rather than the alcohol. In short, I don;t think your experience
has any relevance for most people that have 1-3 drinks occasionally
    while trying to lose weight.

  8. My only point is fat drinkers may have some hope for weight loss with LC. I
will continue to post my results as they are still questionable. Again, time
    will tell.

Our science differs in depth, and I admit to living by my PANT SEAT. You
see, I (think) brakes are improved by resulting WEDGIES. Conversely, I
(think) tune-ups successful, if PANTS are returned more rightfully to
position. I tend towards scrutiny where impressions cease. When I speak my
mind, it is only what I (think) and often originates within my PANTS.
Disregard at will. I'm only talking out my PANTS.

I have no greater depth than my PANTS, and cannot follow what you have
suggested below about eating my booze calories. I only hope to loose
significant weight without giving up my last enjoyable vice.

I do this drinking while doing things. I recently dug a sewer pipe trench. I
am planting vegetables where no garden existed previously. These are rows
which are simply trenches with the soil tossed right back in. I rarely wear
the seat of my PANTS after working my desk job. Maybe I could eat this corn
instead of drinking my whiskey tea, but I didn't want anything else to eat.
I wanted a few drinks while persueing my interests.

Often, given time, what I (think) earns me a kick in the PANTS. Until such
time, I will continue subjecting my experiences and thoughts for varying
regard. I will answer any questions anyone may have pertaining to food,
drink, booze, calories, carbs, or activity. However, I will abstain from
further deep science discussions, preferring instead to wear the knees of my
    PANTS.

I'm going outside to drink in the sunshine and drink in the sunshine and
    soil my PANTS.

    Later on fat folks.

  9. Ummm Hello!
Drinking all the fricking booze helped you get to the 270's. No way
around it. The booze is full of calories and your consuming a lot in
cals plus the booze. Unless your your so dependant on it and will go
throught the DT's if you dont have it, try knocking off the sauce and
    see some real weight loss.

  10. Hi Laureen, 052106
I am working toward a goal most important to myself, weight loss. I am a
drinker expecting no concessions from the group. I am attempting LC without
eliminating alcohol because I enjoy it and because I think eating like a
wolf all my life more likely responsible for my weight gain. You see, I can
go to get burgers and have them all eaten by the time I get home. I can eat
enough for four people without ever slowing or sensing any other signal than
pain. I simply have had to give up on the notion I can eat until satisfied,
but not full. That is completely illusive to me. I simply must learn
cal/carb limits and approach all consumption as a prescribed dosage. If I
temporarily abstain and resume I will not have learned limits for my
lifestyle. I though there might be someone with a similar lifestyle on
ASDLC, but I seem to just be slapping a bee hive.
Your pics look like you have improved you health quite a bit. Good job!

I am the same but I am getting nowhere fast🙁

I once read about a 'drinking man's diet' which advocated continuing to
drink the same, but cutting down on food, whereby you would be taking in
less calories. I sure isn't working for me🙁

weight problem. I hit 410.7 pounds last year. I spent my life obese and
felt hopeless, depressed, and welcomed death. All of the sudden I
realized this was not normal and I HAD to do something about it. Some
in here have chided me ferociously for what they view as taking the
"easy way out" ( my weightloss has not been effortless)with having
gastric bypass. I actually felt I was dying, and not just a slow death.
I believe I didnt have a year left. I needed help. I took it.

Thanks! Do what is right for you and share your experiences. I feel really
good after just a little LCing. I started replying to you before today, but
I guess I got side tracked and lost the window. My wife took the Personal

The thing about alcohol is that there are anecdotal reports of an
increase in effect. "Cheap date syndrome" if you will. I personally
    don't have a problem with it ;-)
Just keep in mind, alcohol has calories and calories DO count.
As I have lost weight I have continued to enjoy the occasional
beer/wine/mead single malt scotch or single barrel bourbon.
I'm a homebrewer and enter my stuff in competitions so I get the chance
to sample alot of really nicely crafted beer and mead.
If you consume just be prepared for the consequences and own them.

    370/255/270
Single malt scotch is awesome (NO it does NOT have carbs as DON'T vodka,
    gin, rum, bourbon, etc generally)
Malt can be made low carb through the judicious use of yeast.
    Read the books.
You can have more than eggs for breakfast.
    Yes calories do count.
Ketosticks are not neccessary to lose weight.
