After replacing the frame on my bike I need to put my old '03 LX brakes arms back on but the part of the arm that contains the coiled spring and tension adjuster (shown in red in the image below) fell off the main arm.
I seem to only be able to put the red bit shown back onto the arm in one position that will allow the spring locate correctly on the pin of the brake arm (highlighted in yellow in the image above). When I do this and put the whole assembly onto the bike, the arm seems to have no resistance to being pushed towards the rim; there's no spring in it, and the brakes wont work. Changing the hole on the brake boss that I use doesn't seem to help much and the tensioning screw doesn't seem to want to move much in either direction.
Can anyone hazard a guess as to what I'm doing wrong?

Let me go take a look at one of my LX V brake bikes,in the bike room. I'm back you could bend but not break the spring. And hopefully you didnt change anything like remove any pad spacers. Well is the replacement frame same as the old frame and you using the old rims.

Well, I did change the spacers since this is a totally different frame and the chain stays are not the same distance apart. Anyway, everythng is up and working just fine now!

That's why I use the steel hangers on my Titus and I'd use them on the other bikes too, if the mfg's made them.

Well in that case (re the damage to the frame), I'll still take an alu one as my frame is made of aluminium. If I mounted a steel one on there, I could damage the drop out which would get VERY costly as its a full suspension jobbie (Norco Six One).

Last time I dropped the bike on its side (down a meter drop actually) it landed fair on the rear derailleur (and only 2 minutes into the bloody ride!), bent the hanger but survided fine, had to shift it into bottom gear to clear the spokes but still mananged a smallish ride with it like that (the hills were a bugger though 🙂
