  1. i'm using X10-93 SILVER chain and MISSING LINK 10-SPEED
and take m on and off all the time
    its very conveniend
I CAN remember the first time to take it off it took some thinking
I use pliers (carefull) and keep these at a weird angle to unclick
would be hard to do without pliers / it's just a click away, but would
be awkward to do with your fingers only

    Dear Carl,

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, try as I might, I can't find
anything that relates to KMC Missing Links. Now, I know you would never
post an off topic link, so please point me to the relevant post.

    Cheers,
    Oz

    Dear Carl,

I get the distinct impression that you now know were wrong about KMC
Missing Links being "advertised as being removable" and will do
anything to avoid admitting your error.

Prove me wrong. (But I don't think you can.)

    Dear Carl,

Nothing about KMC Missing Links there either.

Are you admitting that, while you had no evidence that KMC Missing
Links were "advertised as removable", you have a very hard time
admitting you were just wrong when you said they were "advertised as
    removable"?

    Sad.

Prove me wrong. (But I don't think you can.)

Reminds me of my distinct impression of your making up the story about
someone bragging about buying a helmet for $189.

I didn't even ask you to prove me wrong, just to state that you heard
such a thing. Still no answer....

I can spoil this by revealing that I have removed the Missing Link on my
KMC X-10 dozens of times. No problems. I can't see how there even
could be a problem, as the link is pretty much identical to the SRAM
PowerLink. It doesn't know how many times it has been removed and
    reattached.

Good to learn that the Missing Link *is* reusable. The instructions in the
10 speed KMC chain I just put on says that it is not reusable. But after I
installed the chain I couldn't figure out why it is not reuseable, as it so
much resembles SRAM and other links.

Is there any *trick* to resuing the Missing Link?

On the Missing Links that I've used they all had a small notch in the
slot where you pull the chain tight to "snap" the chain together. I
couldn't detach the chain at the MIssing Link by using my hands only
because of the notch. I did detach it though by using a pair of needle
nose pliers, but that was a pain. I would imagine if someone had the
right tool you could grind that notch away and the link would be
    reusable.

Nope, it's just like the SRAM/Craig ones. I use them with Shimano chains,
which are often on sale (because everybody wants the SRAM ones that come
    with a master link).

    Dear Sammy,

    It's advertised as removable.

Some people disassemble removable links effortlessly. Others find them
    impossible.

Poor technique, dirt, and excessive wear can sometimes make it easier
to use a chain tool and another "removable" link.

    Or pliers.

On the KMC Europe site, there are Missing Links listed whose packaging
is clearly labelled "New" and "Reusable", so it is certainly true that
KMC makes a reusable Missing Link, but I have not found that product
line listed as available in the US with that labelling. From the KMC
site in Taiwan, it appears that the designs of the connector links
were revised fairly recently (the part numbers seem to have changed
from what I recall) which may reflect that new tech. Unfortunately,
it looks like the US distributor is sitting on a pile of the older
Missing Links with the problematic nubs that frustrate attempts to
    remove the link.

Guys, relax. I've been using them for years, probably with and
without the nubs, and they work fine. If they're stiff, give 'em a shot
of WD40, and use pliers to undo.

    Dear Jobst,

The stuff above is just something persistent that clings to my shoe.
There's an amazing amount of it, but eventually it will go away.

You may have missed these two links, which address the KMC question:

    http://groups.google.com/group/rec.bicycles.tech/msg/ef409dc16826af36?dmode=source

    http://groups.google.com/group/rec.bicycles.tech/msg/d65204c76c671378?dmode=source

It's hard to see those two links when that other stuff keeps covering
    them.

    Cheers,

    Carl Fogel

    Dear Carl,

I see you have nothing to say regarding KMC Missing Links.

I'll take this as your admission the you shot your cyber-mouth off
without knowing your ass from your elbow.

Just a typical Carl Fogel, eh?

    Cheers,

Do you know how pathetic you seem?

I can spoil this by revealing that I have removed the Missing Link on my
KMC X-10 dozens of times. No problems. I can't see how there even
could be a problem, as the link is pretty much identical to the SRAM
PowerLink. It doesn't know how many times it has been removed and
    reattached.

    -as

Good to learn that the Missing Link *is* reusable. The instructions in the
10 speed KMC chain I just put on says that it is not reusable. But after I
installed the chain I couldn't figure out why it is not reuseable, as it so
much resembles SRAM and other links.

Is there any *trick* to resuing the Missing Link?

I think the published non-reusability statement in the US market may
be an artifact of one or both of two things.

First, the older design of KMC Missing Links was clearly built to
resist removal. This design misfeature was easily defeated, but that
    wasn't an officially acknowledged fact.

Second, I suspect (but have no hard evidence to back up my suspicion)
that KMC's US reps either want to prop up the sales of their
inexpensive link, or they have advised against re-use for liability
reduction reasons, possibly related to the fact that the early design
made it harder to remove the link without bending the sideplates.

That's just my observations and opinions.

    Dear Jobst,

The stuff above is just something persistent that clings to my shoe.
There's an amazing amount of it, but eventually it will go away.

You may have missed these two links, which address the KMC question:

    http://groups.google.com/group/rec.bicycles.tech/msg/ef409dc16826af36?dmode=source

    Dear Carl,

The phrase you used was "advertised as reusable". Did KMC hire Yellow
Jersey Advertising to do ads on Usenet?

    Please advise.

    Cheers,
    Oz

    Dear Carl,

This post was made *after* you posted that KMC Missing Links were
"advertised as reusable". If you had this knowledge in hand when making
your original post, it would have been the first thing you pulled out
of you pedantic, passive aggressive holster after I challenged your
assertion. You didn't, as the Google record reflects. You know it, I
know it. You are fooling no one.

    Cheers,
    Oz

It's hard to see those two links when that other stuff keeps covering

    Dear Carl,

    Who's covering up?
