  1. I might as well be hanging in a butcher's shop.

They're on sale now and therefore tempting, but if you have sprinters
thighs like yours truly, avoid them. The padding on the inside of the
thigh does nothing but create more chafing, and the leg grippers are so
tight as to actually cause pain. I'm a 33-34 waist, and the shorts
supposedly are 34-36 for a large. They're going back tomorrow.

I can't find the cool page a member of this newsgroup put up a while
back with the pictures of different chamois, if somebody has a link,
    that would be fantastic.

I'm coming from a well loved pair of Performance Hydroflo (sp?) that
had minimal padding, just a little slippery plastic thin bag with some
sort of liquid and a very thin cover on top of that. All the labels are
shredded, but they were about 7 years old, having spent a few years
unused. Any of the Performance models have minimal padding? My 20 miles
of experience with padded shorts has me hating it. Walking with them
was even worse, I felt like one of those infant fetishists. Ewww!
Cheaper is better, though I do like 8 panel shorts. ;-)

    thanks!

    -Max

  2. So you're saying that you never sausage a poorly designed pair of
    shorts?

I was the sausage! I felt like an unpricked banger being sauteed in a
    pan and about to burst!

I seriously wonder about the REI sizing system, as they only have one
larger size. I'm 6'1" and just shy of 180. My body shape allows me to
wear "easy fit" 34" jeans which end up slightly loose in in the waist,
but snug in the thigh. Fairly lean compared to the average American,
    I'd say.

Again, if anybody's familiar with the Performance line of lycra shorts,
I'd love insight on which model has the thinnest chamois, as I've been
extremely satisfied with their shorts in the past. The bike shop guys
want to sell me some Izumi's, but dang, I'd rather wear some Rosanne
Barr stretch pants over a Depends undergarment. Eesh. A low maintenance
version based on traditional wool/leather shorts, but in synthetics
would be ideal. Whose idea was all this pointless "padding"?

    Yes! That's the one!

Bless you and your kin--apparently the old Performance "Hydroflo" or
"HFS" shorts are now known as "liquicell". That's exactly what I needed
    to know.

Take advantage of it and heat up a knockwurst on your 1200 baud modem.

Then you'll have plenty of fodder. It's common on this newsgroup to
    swine about shorts and saddles.

All subsequent pork and pork-related-product puns aside, that was
    truly...well it really... {words fail to convey}.

    Filler Bill, just ribbing ya...

  18. Follow up question: the Nashbar liquicell look to be what I'm looking
for, and on sale as well, but I'm unsure of the sizing. Does 32-34/M
in Nashbar speak actually mean what it says?

Dunno, but Nashbar will take back *anything*, so if they don't fit,
    you aren't stuck with them.
