Quick compatibility question

A 10s crankset would work, and it would require a new bb, but unless for some reason you really like the look of the new cranksets I wouldn't bother. A lot of places (www.nashbar.com) are cutting serious deals on the older style 105 cranks right now. Also, if you're sure it's just the chain ring that's the problem you can replace it for about $30.

Excel Sports is also blowing out FSA carbon cranks.

You can just REPLACE or re-bend the chainring ...

Re-bend? No. Aluminum bends once. It has already done that. Twice breaks it.

Buy a new chainring. Look up Harris Cyclery.

A so-called "bent (aluminum) chainring" is rarely bent beyond where it can't be "flexed" back to a usable alignment.

Now, it may be noted that one SOME cranksets, it is not practical to change the chainrings BECAUSE the chainrings are riveted onto the spider (and, probably not economical to remove because the cost of chainring bolts + a new chainring exceeds the value of the crank) AND/OR the rivets are not in a standad BCD OR the large ring is spiderless and connected to the crankarm ... just to name a few reason.

Not to state the obvious, but if you are noticing a waving motion in your chainring(s) when you are pedaling & look down, then be sure that it isn't because the crank has loosened on the bottom bracket's spindle ... if it has, you may have damaged the interface to the point where you may indeed want to shop for a new crankset.

Shimano cranks are great, and the 105 series IS the best bang-for-your-buck value of the Shimano ROAD components, but you can buy-and-use almost any brand and level of components ...

Harris Cyclery has an extensive inventory, but they are expensive when compared to other mail order options ... but, not expensive when compared with shopping at your local bike shop.

Well, that's true. There's also the Sugino Impel, a $25 triple (square taper interface) that features 28, 38, 48 chainrings, high quality results, and the availability of long cranks. It is not too exciting other than the availability of quality at such a low price (cheaper than buying the chainring).

There's also FC2200 double and FC2300 triple black color Shimano road crankset that fits the square taper bottom bracket for about $50 to $60. Not exciting, work very well. A black painted Sora.

So, if the crankset interface is wallowed out, there some mighty good values in square taper (if your bottom bracket just happens to be square taper).

One of the nicest touring cranksets is also available in this interface. Sugino's famous XD600, 26, 36, 46 is available. You would need a rear cog on the back as least as small as 12t to maintain high speed downhills because of the smaller front chainring. Yet, climbing hills is a breeze with this super-strong full alloy crankset. The XD300 has the same crankarms, but heavier, weaker, steel gears and a lower price.

Oh, and that Shimano 105 is good advice if you're looking for a road crankset. It also has much stiffness for good efficiency.
