  1. I'm a writer, and sometimes come up with ideas for stories from the
weirdest places. One idea I had today was this sci-fi story about a time
traveling adventurer who is being chased by "time cops"; they follow him
all over the place, but can't figure out why he's poppping into the
    times he is.

In the end, it turns out he's tracking down all of his favorite food
moments. That absolutely fabulous ice cream sundae from his childhood,
that special meal with his first love, that special hot dog from the
World Series game he visited with his dad, etc.

So... My question is: If you could travel to any point in time, when
would you go, and what would the food be that you'd go back for?

For me, there are a lot of options:

    Late 60's: Space food sticks

Late 60's/early 70's: Breakfast bars (Carnation, I think)

Mid 70's: Laurel and Hardy sub sandwiches (Northern Nevada/Utah)

Mid 70's: Artic Circle hamburgers (Norther Nevada and Utah), with
    "special fry sauce"

Late 80's/Early 90's: Coney Island Hot Dogs, Worchester, MA

    Late 80's: mussels in Maine

Late 80's: Cheap lobster in MA and Maine

Late 80's: tons of sushi with friends in MA

2005: Las Vegas, Hard Rock Cafe, Kobe Beef at Nobu

Late 60's/Early 70's: Grandma's Fried Chicken, chicken and noodles, and
    beef and noodles.

    Anyone else?

1960s - St catherine Street deli (Montreal) Medium fat smoked meat
sandwitch - dill pickle and spec on the side - washed down with the only
    type of coke in town.
    Heaven!

I would travel forward in time, rather than backwards.
I figure by 60-90 years, they might have finally decided on or
have invented foods prevents/cure disease and make you live
    longer.

Hopefully they've invented some new, red-meat bearing animals,
    too.

How about something truly obscure and perhaps a little gross?

Since he's going through Utah, give him a sojourn in Salt Lake City for
a plate of scrambled eggs and brains at Bill and Nada's Cafe. You could
place that any time in the last half of the twentieth century. They
closed at the end of December 1999 when Bill died, and the cafe has been
torn down as specified in Bill's will.

  5. I would go back to last year when I went to Wendy's and ate a hamburger
which gave me a most disagreeable case of e coli and instead order the
    chicken sandwich.

I can see the package label - "Now with flavor."

That would be better than vegetarian, at least.

My father and my ex-fiance both love scrambed eggs and brains. Brains just
look too... gelatinous (I think that's the word I'm looking for).

August 3, 1968, Travis AFB. Porterhouse steak cooked perfectly medium
rare to order, mammoth baked potato, some fresh green vegetable, cold
real milk, selection of desserts, served in the clean and safe mess
hall for troops just returned from RVN. -aem

    aem,

    Sorry for piggybacking.

I remember in the early 60's there were "Fizzies" basically a fruit
flavored akla-seltzer-type tablet that you dropped into water for an
instant carbonated fruit drink. It was (to a kid) a pretty high tech fun
    drink.

I'd also revisit 1968-1969? For Sour Adams chewing gums. Sour orange and
sour apple. I'd chew it for a minute and then swallow it.

I'll never revisit the Boones Farm Apple wine night... 1971? My first and
last booze puke/stagger and drop in the woods at night exercise.

I'd love to revisit my first LSD trip at 16. After dropping "purple
haze" mini tablets, we all got in a rowboat and out into the middle of my
friend's private lake and then noticing the bullet holes in the bottom of
the boat as we filled with water, we rowed back just two feet shy of
shore when the rowboat sank. We climbed out of the lake and rolled over
the lawn laughting soaked to our waists. I felt the come on as we walked
up the hilled pasture to the main house (an old mansion) when my legs
turned to rubber and I had to laugh anc crawl. Then, finally got my legs
back and we finally aarrived at the house just in time to see the kitchen
pots and pans and utensils battle it out silently. Seeing the wallpaper
trees blowing in the gentle breeze I made with a wave of my hand. The
carpeted hallway leaf patterns grew as I walked over them. A rising and
lowering "brain buzz" noise in my head. The monks in the window panes in
their beautiful robes positioning perfectly and shifting. Seeing through
the floor as it went from wood down to brilliant multicolor mosaic tile
patterns down to multilevel multicolor shifting clockwork with Johnny
Winter And Live blasting on the stereo. I wandered around, hard floors
soft as pillows, studying everything I saw with delight as my friends
hunted me down from time to time out of curiousity and couldn't stop
laughing! They hadn't seen me (nor had I) in such a wonderous state. Nor
could they see what I was seeing as I described everything to them.
Finally, smoking cigarettes and convinced that as the sun came up I had
seen everything, I slept and woke up late in the afternoon and felt
renewed and happy and delighted with the experience.

I think I fairly just time travelled you all.

    One day. May 11th 1965
Future wife and I at dinner at Stuart Anderson's on the River near Port Huron, Michigan.
First time I ever ate mushrooms and liked them - they came on my steak.
Porterhouse steak-rare, with baked potato and a green salad with bleu cheese. I can't
remember the vegetables but, they weren't very good.
