Goo dluck to all us East Coasters with this one. Isabel doesn't need much of a push to just sashay
up the coast, hitting most of it as she goes. Pull the flaps down and make sure you leave a window
or two cracked to let the wind in. It does nasty things if it feels you don't like it ;-)

I seem to recall some people in Miami having a hurricane party on the first floor of a building in
the late '80's. The hurricane wiped out the building and all 30-odd of the party-goers.

Can't say I'm missing life in VA right now (actually, I haven't missed life in VA since the day I
moved ...)

My parents are in Swansboro, NC, right by the bridge to Emerald Isle. They were scheduled to drive
up to Dulles and fly to Germany tomorrow, but instead they've postponed by a week. They tell me
they're not evacuating; I can't say whether that's an okay plan or not, but mom insists that the
local VFW is only 5 minutes away and has a shelter they can use if things get bad.

My brother's in VA; he actually works for/with NOAA, but I haven't heard from him directly about the
whole deal.

My brother lives right in Kill Devil Hills, just north of Nags Head on the OBX. Says he's staying,
probably to surf it...

I'm up here in CT, with a house with brand new windows, and no siding. Oops. Looks like I'll be
doing the tyvek tonight...

Springs to mind from hurricanes I've been through, that if you realise it's time to evacuate, even 5
mins (by car, i assume) is too far to go. Best wishes to them, though - it's always fun to stay..

I just took one last pre-Isabel ride in Powhite. I was thinking the next time I'm there - and I have
no idea when that will be - I will be carrying a chainsaw instead of riding a bike. Hopefully we'll
be able to ride there again soon. Hopefully clearing the park will be my biggest concern.

Yup, but ... they're my parents. Stubborn doesn't even begin to describe them. If they've decided
it's safe ... there's nothing I can
do. (So if you were ever wondering where I get my stubborn streak ... I came by it honestly!)

I think they have a false sense of security because they stayed put during Floyd. At least, that's
what my mom keeps saying -- "Well, we were fine through Floyd ..."

I'm up in Enfield, far enough from the tidal surge. I hope... But I still have a huge pile of
