I've been using my windtrainer on and off for the past few weeks but the most annoying thing is that I need to switch QR systems when I go from the road to the trainer. The std QR with the OCR2 (in the photo below) doesn't fit in the mount system on the trainer because it is too wide. But the thin QR (in my fingers in the picture) has the release bit out the side so is no good in the bike for normal use because I can't tighten it correctly. Is it just the OCR2's that have this problem. Is there a QR that is somewhere in between?

This might seem like a dumb question, but can't you just rotate the QR so it is closed in the up position? Anyway, don't you have to have the QR tight for the trainer?
No sure if I properly understand your problem. I had a similar difficulty with spouse's bike and just replaced her QR with the one provided with the trainer.

The QR in your fingers looks like the standard old school QR - I would have thought it could be tightened OK in your frame. What is it doing in the frame when it is in the trainer? Isn't it tight then? (I may just be thick and unable to understand 🙄 )
I have a Minoura trainer and I put my commuterised MTB (slicks etc) in it. The QR is a Shimano XT one and it seems to fit without problem.

The only way to tighten the silver QR is in the closed position and turning the other side, which isn't exactly ideal. Not having a tight fit doesn't worry me on the trainer, but on the road is a different story, which is why when I go on the road I need to swap back to the black QR that was std with the bike.

I had the same issue and replaced my QR with the old style unit that you have in the picture - I can't understand why you can't get it tight enough? IMHO the old style is better because it's sealed better from the elements.

Isn't the time difference between the eastern and western coasts useful? Ask a tech question when everyone is Bris/Syd/Melb has gone home for the day or is eating their dinner, and the Perth mob is there to answer it. 😄 😄 😄 .
Dave, try getting an internal cam QR in the 'modern style' - could be the answer to your dilema.

OK, I've had a closer look at the photo and I think I now see your problem - there is a nut on the other side of the QR (mostly obscured by your hand) that protrudes too far and interferes with the frame. Is that right? If this isn't the case, I guess I still don't understand why you don't flip the QR open (up in your picture), rotate 180 degrees (so that QR lever is down and to the right of the axle) then fold lever up to get tension.
If this doesn't work, another poster suggested getting a different QR which will work. It's pretty ordinary for a frame to be made that cannot accept standard QR levers!

I don't get this bit - "The only way to tighten the silver QR is in the closed position". Can you explain why you can't open the silver QR, tighten the nut at the other end until it's tight, and then close the lever on the silver QR? You may have to play with the nut tension to get the right closing force, but it should work exactly the same way as the black QR?

I get to do the skewerswap a lot when doing bike fits. I suggest using the skewer that comes with the spin trainer (it will fit on your roady unless there's something *really* odd about your dropouts). Otherwise, the standard Shimano skewers work in both too.
For what it's worth, I suggest getting a [censored] wheel and using that in the trainer, saves on having to swap tyres all the time and a heavy [censored] will feel better as the weight of it works like a big flywheel, smoothing out the trainer.
