You can also just but the Swiss rings from Phil Wood and use them on
Shimano UN72 (I think that 's the model) sealed BBs.

Shimano UN72 (I think that 's the model) sealed BBs.

That would be great but how would that work on the fixed side? (removing
the existing fixed cup from the BB shell).

The UN-72 has a right-side cup that is press fit onto
the cartridge BB, so you can bang it off with a vise and
rubber mallet or something. On most of the other
Shimano square taper BBs the fixed threads were
part of the cartridge shell so this trick wouldn't work.

The UN72 trick works great, if you can find a UN72. I used one for
quite a while on my Peugeot with French-threaded Phil rings. When I
bought a Campy crank, I had to break down and get a real Phil Wood BB,
for the ISO taper.

Be careful - some places that still list a UN72 will ship you a UN73,
figuring it's better, because it's 72+1.

The campagnolo chorus cartridge also comes apart on both side. If you
need a 102 mm or 110 mm symmetric cartridge at a semi-affordable price,
these can be acquired in the $50-$60 range and used with the phil wood
retaining rings.

In a similar sense, the new centaur cartridge _might_ come apart, but
I'd check it at a local shop before springing for it.

Cannot use Phil rings with Campag BBs....the Centaur is a triple
bearing like Chorus and Record, with a 111mm spindle.
