At least if you were gonna criticize Patches you could have at least
SPELLED words correctly, spaced paragraphs properly, used proper
capitalization, and put the proper amount of spaces after periods, and
other punctuation.

If you were a former tech support person as you say you were at one time
I would expect more from you. No wonder you are STILL unemployed! If
you cannot comprehend the meaning of a sentence or paragraph unless it
is formatted just so the fact that you are unemployed doesn't surprise
me in the least!

High tech IT used to be my, and many friends, careers. The field has
literally dried up here in Missouri. Employers are now hiring youngsters
right out of school and paying them less than 1/2 what us old timers used
to make. I'll never go back to it anyway. I got sick of the on calls 24/7
365 a year. I also got sick of carrying 2 cell phones, a pager and a
Blackberry. Worst of all were the hours. Gawd, during the "I Love You"
virus I worked 90 hours a week and didn't leave the building. We had a gym
and showers there and they hauled in food for us. We slept on cots. Never
again. 9/11 was the worst. We were actually locked in and were not allowed
to leave for a couple of days.

who refuses to be on call 24/7. I do like to sleep, thank you. This is
probably why I can't find a job; I'm not 22 years old and I expect more than
$18,000 a year to cover my bills.

example) are being outsourced to India and China. The US is spinning
down the toilet quicker than I ever thought we could.

can't possibly make my house payments and pay the necessities on

An apartment, or HUD-sponsored "condo," seem to fit that type of
employer's mindset. At least you are seeing these type of employers
prior to getting sucked into the job.

I used to work for Farm Bureau, until I quit last July, thanks to
understaffing and reduced benefits and forgotten raises. It was in
another state, so it wasn't officially affiliated with Tennessee FB, but
I don't recommend working in insurance in general.
You, however, might be heartless and cranky enough to thrive in the
business. I say that with love in my heart.

That happens with a lot of professions nowadays. Anything involving
customer service seems to pay nothing and they hire only unqualified
people or temps that they keep for a short amount of time.

I was appalled to watch some show.... 60 Minutes maybe? That
interviewed some young people about their jobs and watched them say
with big smiles how much they "love" their jobs, would put in 24/7 for
the same amount of pay etc. etc. etc. Boy, is that going to come back
and bite them in the butt! I hope they understand someday just how
ridiculous they sounded.

If you have financial stake in the company (even decent bonuses), work
your tail off... but when you're just an hourly waged cog in the wheel
that nobody gives a damn about - look out for #1 and don't donate your
time.

Isn't it sad that our society has produced a generation of brown nosing SOBs who
will say something like that because they are afraid to tell the truth, afraid to
stick up for themselves, afraid to insist on being treated with a little dignity.

I liked my job. I would not have minded staying on a few more years except that
there were some changes planned that I had no use for, and I had a 3 month window
to bail out with with an early retirement. If I stayed longer I would have been
locked in for another 5 years.

I worked for the same employer for 28 years. It was a pretty good place to work.
It had its ups and downs, but I never got up in the morning dreading having to go
into work.

I had a number of crappy jobs before that. I had my share of working my ass off in
dangerous conditions and working for [censored] bosses and all for bad pay. I can't
picture myself on national TV saying how much I loved those jobs. Maybe that is why
I never became a boss over some of the types of people who would do that.

Yes, 60 minutes this Sunday. It was a husband and wife team they were
interviewing.

One of my problems with the traditional work environment is that I'm
unable to kiss ass to any degree. One of my other problems is that I
cannot tolerate those who kiss ass. I guess my biggest problem is that I
can't abide people who want their asses kissed.
