hi everybody,
this weekend I have my first backstroke competition (I'm 27, male)...
about the average speed I have no problems: I'm going quite fast...or
better, I'm glad of my speed... it doesn't mean that I'm fast :-)
The problems are the turns and the start, to be more specific:
on the start I'm worried to slide off with my foot, and on the turns
I'm really slow when I roll (the couch says that during the turn my
legs out of the water are really slow, almost strengthless).
on the 50 meters backstroke (25 meters pool), I'm registered with 35''
and my couch says that I can easily do that time...
I know that without watching me swimming, it could be difficult, but...
do you have any "standard" suggestion/hint/whatever to improve my turn
speed? I do the "standard" (is it standard?!?) turn: flags, 3 strokes,
turn from torso up to torso down, finish the stroke, turn, push against
the wall, 4 butterfly kicks, go..
Unluckily I can't train properly the turns (this is the main problem,
actually) because in my swimming pool the flags are absent, and I train
in a 50m pool... then it is difficult to predict the exact position of
the border... I arrive near the border a bit "diffident"... maybe
because several times I've enjured my poor fingers and my heels ;-)
thanks a lot,
Major
