You mean like in the Carribean etc.? I know, it's all those brutal winters and lack of pools down
there that keep them out of the water. If Jamaica could field a world-class *bobsled* team of all
things, surely they could produce some swimmers.
There have been blacks swimming for years and some who are very good, but very few who have gotten
to world class status. In a sport where 100ths of a second count, it's a matter of physics. On land,
everyone's about equal and your particular muscular/skeletal/neurological system makes the
difference. However, in the water the rules change. Those with denser muscle/bone structure aren't
going to be as buoyant, and they'll be fighting against this no matter how much they train or how
talented they are. Notice that the few medalists there have been, are in short distance events. And
notice also that many of those swimmers status as "black" is dubious. Of the ones I've been able to
locate photos of, such as Anthony Ervin, Alison Terry, Sabir Muhammad, none of them are clearly
"Negroid".
