  1. I bought a smoothie maker (Villaware Smoothee-Bar) for $19.99 at JCP Outlet
this afternoon. When I got home, I looked up the reviews for this product
and found they weren't so hot. I guess I'll return it, but I need to know
what smoothie maker you think is the best of all. I have a blender, but I
have to stop and stir it often. Is there one out there that you wouldn't
have to stir and not cost an arm and a leg?

    TIA!!!

A blender is fine and it's not a stop and go operation for me. If
you're convinced that you need a dedicated smoothie maker, then you
    have to pay for it.

You have to stop and stir it often. Is that what you said? If this weren't
necessary, what would you be doing during the two minutes while the smoothy
was being made? Meeting with world leaders, curing cancer, and figuring out
    a solution to global warming?

You must be friggin' kidding. Is lifting your arm really such an effort? How
huge is your arm? Do you need pullies and rope to hoist your arm?

Fill blender 2/3 with frozen strawberries or other fruit. Pour in enough
orange or other juice to cover fruit halfway. Turn on blender. Count to 30.
If it's so thick that it needs to be encouraged with a spoon or spatula, add
another half cup of juice. Or more. At some point, the mix will begin
swirling without assistance and life will be good.

If this basic recipe is too healthy, add a stick of butter, 3 cups of heavy
cream and 17 cups of sugar. This handy accessory will help you to move your
arm, and the spoon to stir the smoothy:

You'd feel really bad if Che actually *is* curing cancer and solving
    global warming...

Probably, but I can't listen to someone who says it's a major inconvenience
to lift a spoon or a spatula.

Yeah, get rid of that thing... that spigot is a pain to clean, and the
darn thing has plenty 'o' rings to lose. My neighbor has one is how I
know. She called me in to get the thing apart so she could clean it.
Well the base part that holds the blade is left hand thread, but do the
directions mention this, noooo. Took me a bit to figure it out and
finally I was able to unscrew it, had to wrap it with large rubberbands
so I could get a grip.

I've been using my trusty Oster that I bought new some forty years ago
for $50, still going strong and has more power than those new
supercharged mega horsepower jobs they're selling nowadays for hundreds
    of dollars.

For smoothies I'd get an Oster, one with the glass container.

The Smoothie Pro is what I have. I love it. Makes a mean milk shake too 😉

Yup...it's called a blender. I use my Oster on a daily basis for
smoothies/licuados (the Honduras version of a smoothie). Blenders are
what all the smoothie/licuado shops use also

Do they even still sell the glass containers? Maybe I'm just not looking at
    the right blenders.

This looked like it might be good as a blender, if it works
as advertised. Don't have one, don't know.

We've got a fancy schmancy Kitchenaid blender, and it doesn't work as
well as the old Osterizer (or maybe it's an ancient Hamilton Beach.)

I wonder if those old Hamilton Beach "Drinkmasters", (you know, those
turquoise colored milkshake machines) would work for making smoothies?
I suspect they don't have sharp enough blades to pulverize frozen fruit.

Mine's a Hamilton Beach, got to be 20 years old or more at this point.
    Still works, no complaints.

Kitchenaid KSB5WW4 has glass. If you see other model numbers online, all at
the same price, they usually refer to colors, not mechanical differences.
Bed Bath & Beyond stores had the best price when I bought mine, and rebate
    coupons from the manufacturer.
