  1. It's too early to make yet but I had to get up and go pee. Methinks old
    age is setting in.

What I want to know is the name of this breakfast thing I make. I make it
a lot when I have sliced Italian bread on hand. I have no idea where the
alleged recipe came from. Sometimes I'll use breakfast meat, bacon,
sausage or whatever. Sometimes not. I started doing this in college.

It's basic, I'll cut a hole in a slice of Italian bread. I'll melt butter
in a skillet and toast the bread. I'll crack an egg into the hole of the
bread and season with S&P. When the egg is firm, I'll flip it. I do know
    it's good.

I'm gonna make it for Steven when he gets home. He's been gone all night.
To really starch it up, I'll make some home made potatoes 😉

Just thought of something, we have this thing where rice is steamed
with beef - then when it's ready (just before eating) we dig a hole and
crack an egg inside the rice and let it cook a little by the heat. 🙂

The (hundreds of) Cracker Barrel restaurants offer that very item on their
breakfast menu, made with their sourdough bread.

They call it "Eggs in a Basket" I believe. They serve it along with the
toasted discs that were cut out of the center of the bread slices.

I'll do the same with ramen noodles. I used to try and make the egg
streams in it but gave it up. Add some onion and garlic. Makes a great
    lunch.

I've been doing this forever. I might have picked it up from my
grandmother. My mother sure as hell does not cook 😉 It could be a Cracker
Barrel type dish, I don't know. All I know is; it's simple and good.
Thanks for the name. I also like Toad In the Hole but I have a recipe I
    use for it already.

I remember my niece making this for us for breakfast and I thought "how
novel!" Haven't had it since. Maybe 25 years.

    Thanks for the memory!

Well hell, my Toad in a hole recipe is similar but not the same. Hmmm...
Maybe I've been making it all along.

When I was growing up, my mama called it "Eggs-in-a-Nest," and she claimed
to have read of it in a Nero Wolfe mystery. All I know is how much my
    sisters and I loved it!

  12. You don't have to bother cutting out the hole in the bread. Toast a
piece of bread........... mash down the center of the bread slice with
the back of a spoon--------crack a raw egg into the depression.
Microwave about 30 seconds, or to your taste. But cover with a piece of
wax paper or??? to prevent splatter if yolk pops. You can walk out the
    door while eating this.

I've heard it called a "buffalo egg" and think there's one on
    Allrecipes with that name.
