Well, I guess it's no worse than last year's schedule. (Maybe the
Vuelta "summary" will be shown, too - who knows?)

I channel surf by OLN, and am amazed that they can show "Survivor"
seemingly all the time, interspersed with someone shooting anything that
moves, or talking about the guns that allow shooting anything that moves.

Wonder if [censored] Cheney is scheduled for a guest appearance? Maybe he'll
hunt Michael Chertoff....

I enjoyed that and thought it was worth the $20.

This is one of the only real things i envy americans for... getting OLN.
OTOH, our olympic coverage is ten times better. But if i had a choice
i'd rather have some sort of cycling coverage. OLN canada blows. I wish
i could afford to get DISH or something.

I only had to pony up something like $5.99, as best I can recall. OLN
sent out the offer to people who are signed up for news from their Web
site. Is that how you heard about the MediaZone coverage?

Never could figure out how to save those broadcasts. It would be fun to
listen to the motorcycle and helicopter noises again today....

Maybe it was only $6, I don't recall. I heard about it on this
newsgroup.

And I also tried unsuccessfully to save them. I recall one morning
sitting at work on a Linux machine trying to figure that out.

You do know that Dish discontinued OLN because of OLN's demands that
they be included in a wider package offering, don't you? Cutting Dish
loose now (or as soon as the ground is snow free and the subcontractor
comes out to lay wires).

With Dish you can subscribe to an international Italian station and get full
coverage. Downside it's in Italian. Upside is the Italian Kirsten Gum is
hotter and dresses better.

I think Dish lets you grab Eurosport too...for the cheapskates like me,
Cycling.TV will be running Het Volk and KBK live and uncut, from their
webpage. KBK is free, and I think Het Volk is, too. They also have TdU
recaps running now, and the Team Bianchi presentation (also for free).

Don't I know it. Running out of time to set up an alternative. Got too much
invested in DISH equipment (mainly an HD PVR that works only with DISH) to
get rid of DISH entirely, but looks like the cheapest cable option gets OLN.
Just what I needed, an even-bigger tangle of wires!

It all comes down to viewers=dollars. OLN is going to work hard to optimize
not just current, but future revenue as well. OLN probably stood by cycling
because they believed it to have a lot of growth potential. Reality probably
hit sometime last year. When Lance announced his retirement, that kinda took
a lot of the marketing hutzpuh away from the Only Lance Network.

People watch Bass Fisherman, the various Bull shows,
Shooting-anything-that-moves shows (always done in hushed tones giving a
fake sense of reverence to the art of shooting fleeing animals). There's
nothing you or I can do about it, that's just the way it is.

If cycling were more like Rollerball (the original movie), I'm sure it would
be a HUGE hit on OLN!

i think it's time to arrange a video underground... anyone with a VCR
willing to send OLN tapes to canada? I've done it before....and with no

OLN's highest ratings have come from cycling. So the question is why they
don't have confidence that if they show decent race covrage, the ratings will
remain high? The Vuelta coverage last year was pathetic. They shouldn't
expect the fans to tune in if the coverage sucks.

Agree about the Vuelta coverage. Probably the problem is that the
cycling coverage *costs* a lot more - geez, how much does it cost to
film two old guys wanderin' around in a field, shootin' at things?

Seriously, I think to contract with the Tour or Giro for a video feed is
really big $$$. So in dollars per rating point, OLN may find cycling
(or at least non-Tour cycling) isn't such a good investment. (I sure
hope I'm wrong).
