If they were producing their own coverage, I would agree. But they don't.
They buy the feeds from other companies. So their cost is not that high.

High ratings = more money. So if you have a sport that has given you quite a
bit of money in the past, you would want to continue that flow. You do that by
giving high quality coverage to the sport to keep the fans coming back. Yes,
they have to invest more to get the feeds, but the returns are also higher.
