Hey guys, I've been reading all the threads and posts on the Ergomo and SRM, and I don't want to flog a horse, but I'm still unsure which power meter is the better purchase. I'm no so concerned about cost, and I like the cachet of the SRM, but it's hard to justify if the Ergomo is just as accurate and is just as robust (not sure on these, but I think the accuracy is the same and I believe both work well with CyclingPeaks, although I get the sense the Ergomo is practically tailored for CyclingPeaks). And for the price of one SRM, I could outfit two bikes with Ergomo bb's and just swap the head unit. But is the jury still out on the Ergomo? Is the Ergomo still in the early stages, like the Tune days of the PT?
I apologize if this is rehashing old material for you guys, but I have read all of it and am still on the fence. Push me one way or the other so I can get on with it! Many thanks -
How many bikes do you have? Can you make a choice that works with all of them?
I have seven bikes and one SRM and use the SRM on the two track bikes most of the time - the chainline is different so I have to put the chainring on the inside when it's on one bike and move it to the outside on the other bike. I put it on one of my cyclocross bikes when the track racing season is over. There is an issue of getting a good chainline which is problematic because the SRM only comes in square taper for Campy bottom brackets which really limits the available axle lengths. I chose square taper because I needed to use the SRM on two different track frames. If you get SRM only for your road bike(s) that probably won't be an issue. There are some people out there with SRMs on multiple bikes because they don't like dealing with this.
My other four bikes have PowerTap mounts on them...
Once you start playing with power it can become an unhealthy obsession.

Alternatively, one SRM to move between both bikes. What I'm wondering about is if I go the Ergomo route, am I going to look back and say "Man, I should have gone the SRM route"? Is the SRM that much better? Does the Ergomo work better with CycingPeaks?
Oh, and regarding your comment that the SRM only works with a Campy bb, their website says it can be purchased to fit a Shimano bb, and I would hope that the Dura Ace model would be that way. Am I reading that wrong?

Yes the SRM website is correct. That's what I meant when I said you should be fine if you are getting it only for road bikes - Shimano Octalink, ISIS, Shimano Dura Ace, FSA outboard cranks are SRM'ized. If you have any requirements that are odd like mine (cyclocross/mountain/track with greater variation in chainline) there could be issues.
You'll either have buyer's remorse or be singing the praises of whatever you buy. 🙂
