The Crow said:My brother has expressed an interest in taking up some kind of exercise to
do with building a little bit of strength.
"Expressed an interest"? Is that the same as sitting around [censored]
about getting fat without ever actually moving or doing anything?
Quoted message said:He currently has next to none,
and no experience of exercise, so we are talking the serious novice end of
the scale.
Then he should start with a book, or a website. In point of fact, HE'S
going to have to lift a finger, at least long enough to read
www.ExRx.net and learn the name of some exercises.
Quoted message said:The only thing is that he currently live in a bedsit, and the only space he
has is about four square feet of floor, under the bed, where he could shove
something when not in use.
That's only his opening excuse. The next excuse is "I don't have time"
and then "I don't want to look like Arnold" and then "I tried everything
and nothing works." I'm sure he can come up with more inventive excuses
as time goes on.
Quoted message said:What do you think would be a good path to pursue for someone who's never
done resistance work before, and has next to no space to store anything, not
even enough room for a full length bar?
Move his body.
Quoted message said:I'm thinking either a pair of dumbbells, and some simple/basic movements
with these, or some bodyweight stuff, pushups, dips off a chair, that kind
of thing. Someone else suggested bungee cords, but I don't know about
these.
Any ideas? Thanks.
You're sweet to care. But it's useless. There is no way you can help
your brother. He will do it or he won't do it. My guess is he won't do
it. Just take care of your own body and serve as an example. That's
all you can do.
