  1. My brother has expressed an interest in taking up some kind of exercise to
do with building a little bit of strength. He currently has next to none,
and no experience of exercise, so we are talking the serious novice end of
    the scale.

The only thing is that he currently live in a bedsit, and the only space he
has is about four square feet of floor, under the bed, where he could shove
    something when not in use.

What do you think would be a good path to pursue for someone who's never
done resistance work before, and has next to no space to store anything, not
even enough room for a full length bar?

I'm thinking either a pair of dumbbells, and some simple/basic movements
with these, or some bodyweight stuff, pushups, dips off a chair, that kind
of thing. Someone else suggested bungee cords, but I don't know about
    these.

    Any ideas? Thanks.

Perfect for a kettlebell - spend less than $200, get a 16 kg (35 lb.)
kettlebell, and the Russian Kettlebell Challenge book and the DVD.
Great stuff, and certainly a great foundation from which he can later go
to more traditional lifting if he wants, and/or a heavier kettlebell.

and scroll down to the Men's Kettlebell Quick Start Kit - it's got all
    three things in it.

Total [censored]. Look at the guy hawking them. He's 5'4" tall, 87lbs wet,
and couldn't lift my right nut. Picture him in a ballerina outfit, and
    you got the idea.

  5. Good roll up mat and weights..

No gym for home, work out floor with 30, but is it for 20 like 30 lb
when you no lift it to be for men, for 30 lbs instead? or half is 10
    for 20 pounds?

    HTH.

I totally agree. But you should check Mistress Krista's site anyway.

Incorrect, gym for home, work out ceiling with 35, but it is not for
like 25 to 30lb, but you lift for men and woman, and 45lb is a
    quintescently frozen half of 45lb.

"Expressed an interest"? Is that the same as sitting around [censored]
about getting fat without ever actually moving or doing anything?

Then he should start with a book, or a website. In point of fact, HE'S
going to have to lift a finger, at least long enough to read
www.ExRx.net and learn the name of some exercises.

That's only his opening excuse. The next excuse is "I don't have time"
and then "I don't want to look like Arnold" and then "I tried everything
and nothing works." I'm sure he can come up with more inventive excuses
    as time goes on.

You're sweet to care. But it's useless. There is no way you can help
your brother. He will do it or he won't do it. My guess is he won't do
it. Just take care of your own body and serve as an example. That's
    all you can do.

Thanks for the help. I reckon he'll start doing it, but you're right,
whether he carries on or not is a different matter.
