Only one setting if you use Xnews. You simply enter a value for the "x" in
the following option:

"Kill articles crossposted to more than [x] groups"

on a few ngs and this one the filters have just gone haywire lately.

You're better off with a newsreader than can filter crossposts. That
way you usually don't have to killfile individuals, just the cross
groups.

At the moment, I'm killfiling by key words. :-)

I finally set up a filter to take out any subject that contains the word
"God". Also "arrow" and "arrows".

The trick with key words is selecting ones that are unlikely to be food
related, and the filters are specific to this group only. I can select
the heirarchy if I wan't, but I'm not.

It does not killfile authors unless I tell it to.
I set up a keyword filter for "from" if the from (author) contains the
word "Chung". Since he always posts with his name even tho' he changes
ID's frequently, I should never see a post from him again using that as
the filter criteria.

I think that if I manipulate some of the filters just right, I might be
able to filter out all posts that are crossposted to a specific group.

Where the hell are these coming from, and how can I tell?
I guess I could pull up the headers to find that information?
I normally do not make those visible.

The thing is, I'm leery of filtering out crossposts as there is a small
group of lists I belong to where crossposting is appropriate in the
RELATED groups, and I don't want to lose those posts. Some are posted by
some close 'net buddies...

That's the way. The header should give you the entire newsgroup list.

The key is to look for groups you doubt will ever have any interesting
thread crossed to. You can usually tell.

I didn't get the impression that yours had a separate killfile. For
instance, Thunderbird does not. To killfile someone with that reader
you add a filter with their email address. They simplify it with the
"create filter from message" pulldown.

XanaNews can do it either way. There's a one-click "bozo bin" button or
you can make a filter for the Sender field. Ones in the bozo bin don't
show up on the filter list, although can view the entire bozo bin file
separately.

Err, unmm that's why you use the * it catches everything afterwards. I
just filteter based on *.* for his [censored]. It catches everything. The *
is a wildcard meaning it will work for anything 🙂 Most newsreaders
will work this way in recognizing the wildcards.

Poor sci.med.cardiology. I'll bet there are a lot of people
learning to use their kill files. This Chung person claims to be a
cardiologist. If so, he must be an unemployed cardiologist with all
the time he spends on line. He has literally taken over that newsgroup.

But if someone were posting about butts and you KFed butt*, you'd not
only eliminate butts, you'd eliminate butter.

As I understand it, he has lost his license to practice medicine. I
could be wrong on that, but if memory serves, people in the low-carb
group had done some investigating.
