The only animals I've ever been attacked by whilst out and about are other
people's dogs. I've got a jacket with a hole in it since an encounter with
an overweight labrador last week, good job it was cold enough for several
layers. If farmers can shoot dogs for worrying sheep surely I should be
able to shoot them for ripping my jacket?

Me too. Don't have a dog, but I certainly give them a wide berth, make
plenty of noise when approaching and try to make sure I've got a wall or
fence within a couple of strides.

317 people injured by sheep?? Now I've always been wary of cattle, but
should I be keeping my eyes peeled for dangerous sheep? Am I really 4
times more likely to be injured by a sheep than a cow?

I know someone who was injured by a sheep. Mind you, they were trying to
ride it around an abandoned house at the time and didn't have the sense to
give up when the daft animal decided to jump out of the window. They're
usually quite safe if left alone.

was trampled to death last July near Wigan, whilst walking his dog.

A year or two ago I was walking across a large field full of sheep, all
of which appeared to be rams, when my lady friend decided to take a
pratt-fall over a clump of grass(?) and landed flat on her face.

She had hurt her chest in the fall, and it was a tricky situation as I
tried to make sympathetic noises at her obvious pain whilst expediting
our passage through the flock, which were beginning to take an unwelcome
interest in us.
Once over the stile, I insisted on examining the bruising......

When you live in the middle of a wood free roaming sheep can be a never
ending source of childhood entertainment....varyingly successful attempts at
riding them as mentioned above, rounding them up into people's gardens,
shooting them with airguns, etc, etc. I always thought seeing how many we
could spray pink overnight would have been quite funny but not really worth
the effort or expense. Have you ever tried getting one into a phonebox?

Before anyone condemns me for cruelty for shooting sheep with an airgun I
should point out that it was only a very weak air pistol that wouldn't have
caused them any harm. I know this because we tested it out on next door's
kittens first to make sure.

Probably, if that includes farm workers. They tend to be wary of cows,
but think nothing of trying to persuade panicky sheep to take an
unwanted bath. There are also a lot more sheep out there, at least round
here.

interograting ROSPA's database.

The bad news is it reports not 317 but over 600 "home and leisure"
accidents involving sheep or lamb.

The good news that only 21 of these 600 accidents involved
walkers/runners in "natural areas".
