  1. Hi all, I am interested in getting into non-competitive swmming, pretty
much just at my home pool a couple times per week for some basic
exercise. I am am teenage male, and have only worn boardshorts or
actual swim "trunks" my entire life, which I am finally realizing make
it nearly impossible to kick for an extended amount of time because of
    their length and bagginess.

I am looking for a suit - don't know what kind or type or brand - that
would still be fairly long in terms of covering at least some of my
upper leg, but that would allow me much for flexibility is kicking and
movement under water. Being at a sensitive age, I would like something
also that is not too revealing, hence I am not a big fan of the
brief-type Speedos, though something like a jammer sounds more
    appealing.

Can you recommend a basic suit like this or something similar?

Also, my parents are used to me wearign baggy clothes, both in and out
of water, any ideas on how to explain to them my desire for something
more fit, and thus most likely more revealing?

    Thanks, any suggesstions are appreciated.

Go for a jammer...you can pick one up pretty easily at any swim supplier, or
on the internet. a regular material will do considering how often you swim,
so no need to go for the more durable materials. If your modesty is in
question, you can always wear trunks around the pool, then take them off
when in the water, and put them on again when you get out. Good on you
    though.

That is your typical answer from MS, or MWS.

    As for my opinion.....

    You have 2 choices.

    1) pick a suit you like, and let your parents see you in it, and then let
    them get used to it.

    2) have them with you when you get it.

Each way your parents will react to it how they would react to other simular
    things.

I was 15 when I got my first speedo. We were visting Florida during March.
We are from Canada, so no snow was great.
The suit I had been wearing the prvious summer was starting to get to tight.
At one of the shops, they had both types, board shorts and speedos. At the
time they did not have jammers. When my parents asked me which I wanted,
referring to the various board shorts, I asked, What about those?, an I
pointed to the rack with speedos.
Honestly, I though my parents would never say yes, but they did.

Your parents might be the same way, not realy worry about it.

Your parents may be shocked, and for bid you to wear anything like it.

Just go out and do it.

Jammers or speedos, your choice. You will be glad you gave up the shorts.

You can't be serious. The OP was certainly not. He was trolling. He is
    probably a pedophile.

    Just like you

You and prouds60man are not like me at all. Did his post sound proud
to you? Your advice to him was that of a psychologist advising a
client with a serious phobia, and he was talking about buying a
swimming suit to wear in his own pool in front of his own parents.

  8. Martin, go back and re-read the OP's writing. He says he is at "a sensitive
age". Does that sound like a regular teenage guy to you? And, if he knows
enough to use the word "jammer", then he knows enough to go to Kastaway or
Swim2000 or some other online shop. He was actually soliciting something to
read that would turn him on. The first thing I looked at after reading his
post was his sig. That was a blatant giveaway, too.

    Clues. Look for the clues.

  9. I can assure you I am a teenager. I am no pervert as you have
suggested - I know about jammers, speedos and everything, as many kids
from beach cities do know with waterpolo and swimming and everything
that goes on with friends and high school. I was simply curious -
wondering if there was anything such as a jammer, but that was perhaps
slightly less revealing - I have seen mesh type suits that are like
speedos, but not tight, so I didn' know if anyone would know anything
about that, or for that matter, just anything else.

As for my name, it is "proud s60 man," the S60 referring to a Canon
camera I have owned for about a year, (www.powershot.com), and "proud"
    - being the proud owner. Man, simply because when I post of
photogrpahy boards it is sometimes better to be thought of as an adult
instead of a kid to illicit a quicker response.

I honestly did not mean to offend anyone or insinuate that I am any
type of pedophile or anything at all.

I'm sorry if I gave that impression at all, truly I am.

    Thank you.

  10. I can assure you I am no pervert.

I was simply wondering if there was anything besides a Speedo, such as
a jammer or even a mesh-type Speedo that I have seen that could be worn
as an alternative. I really am a kid living in CA, and have many
freinds on waterpolo/swim teams, so I am familiar with the terminology
    used, etc.

As far as my username, it refers to a Canon S60 digital camera, and I
use this name also to post on photogrpahy boards, where the use of
"man" seems to illicit a quicker response than "kid" or soemthing else.
Proud just refers to my pride in owning such a great camera.

I am sorry for offending anyone or giving the impresion of being
    someone looking for trouble.

I really am sorry, I do not mean any harm at all. I really do want to
know. I was planning to go to a local sporting goods store next week,
so I was looking for an answer.

    Thank you.

  11. You're not fooling anyone hear except Micheal Artindale. Why don't you
write to him directly? Maybe you two could meet.

  12. If you have looked in the catalogs, then you know what is available for
purchase. Even giving you the benefit of the doubt, which I am going to do,
why would you think that we would know of some other product that doesn't
exist in the retail catalogs? That is one reason I was puzzled by your post.
