a "Which Bike" dilema

Okay, so I'm bringing a bike to the sand box.... no problem there. As I'm cruising the web this afternoon my dear wife said "you need ANOTHER bike, you can just forget that sh!t..... I'm sure you can make one of the 6 you already have work! So, I've narrowed it down to between the hardtail Van Dessel BuzzBomb Disc 29"er or the rigid 26" Redline MonoCog. 29"er BuzzBomb Pro's: SingleSpeed Disc brakes. replacement 700C tires/tubes probably easier to find more comfotable to ride my favorite bike 29"er BuzzBomb Con's: cost more front fork seals will get trashed narrower tires means less traction in fine sand my favorite bike MonoCog Pro's: SingleSpeed cheap durable practically disposable, if I _HAVE_ to leave it behind, I won't be heartbroken wider tire possibilities means more traction on fine sand rigid fork, nothing to break or wear out MonoCog Cons: Rim brakes + very abrasive sand = fast wear no tabs for disc brake mounting (I _really_ want disc brakes) replacement 26" tires/tubes probably harder to find rigid fork

Okay, so I'm bringing a bike to the sand box.... no problem there.
As I'm cruising the web this afternoon my dear wife said "you need
ANOTHER bike, you can just forget that sh!t..... I'm sure you can make
one of the 6 you already have work!
So, I've narrowed it down to between the hardtail Van Dessel BuzzBomb
Disc 29"er or the rigid 26" Redline MonoCog.
29"er BuzzBomb Pro's:
SingleSpeed
Disc brakes.
replacement 700C tires/tubes probably easier to find
more comfotable to ride
my favorite bike
29"er BuzzBomb Con's:
cost more

MonoCog Pro's:

Tire width rules over all other criteria for desert riding.

It was easier to glance at the wall map.
I've never ridden there, but if it's sandy Greg is right, wider is
better.

Copy and paste, took all of 2 minutes from startup of Google earth to
location. Saudi Arabia.
If sandy, wider is better, and disc brakes are the way to go.

Brakes for sand riding? Wouldn't the wheels just dig in and STOP?
I don't have the horsepower to ride in sand, so I shouldn't chime in
with my 2cents.

So, I'm still torn between two bikes.
One has the discs, the other has the capability for wider tires....
Perhaps I can find a redline monocog disc frameset, cheap.

It's not at all unlike riding in snow, which I have plenty of
experience.
You just don't need studded tires ;-)

My wife announced at Christmas dinner that my 10 yr. old Proflex, only the
day before replaced as my primary off-road rig by a spanking new Specialized
Stumpy FSR Comp, was now under the ownership of my 17 yr. old nephew.
I get to store it, clean it and maintain the PF, but 5 "functioning" bikes
in the basement under my ownership, was quite enough for her.
I do take him riding - 4 days since Christmas eve, he's getting good at it,
actually. No falls today.

It's good that someone else uses the bike used less often. I feel
guilty sometimes for hoarding.
