Have you seen the signs by the road side that have big flashy lights and 30, SLOW DOWN in LEDs on them? They've got 2 each way in Chiselhampton (near Oxford). After weeks of trying, finally set the buggers off tonight🙂 YES! You'd have thought I'd won a stage of the Tour😉 FWIW, they triggered as my speedo went from 32 to 33. And I checked there was no car shooting up behind to cause a false positive.....
BTW, in car mode I find it's much more satisfying ~not~ to set them off. I mean, the car'll do 140mph on the flat, so where's the achievement in 33? (although the plonkers I usually find glued to my [censored] at that point seem to think it may be there...)

There arent any of them near me - the closest I can think of is a sign that warns lorries who are too high to turn around and not go through a low bridge - must remember to take a large fishing rod with me one day - not in a lightning storm tho eh!!!

Funnily enough, I did this on Tuesday for the first time (on the coast road down to the Electric Brae in Ayrshire). As you say, immensly satisfying. :-)

On the matter of these signs themselves, there are some like that near where I live in Leabridge Road, but when I noticed them they seemed to only be displaying the speed of the vehicle that had just gone past to following drivers, not the speed of an approaching vehicle. Probably a better idea, although I admit to being a bit disappointed about that ;-) .

Ah, rats. My speedometer told me 30, but I was following a couple of cars who'd just overtaken me at the time.

The one the OP mentioned simply displays the current limit, and so never goes above a readout of 30. Admittedly it's a short bit of 30 in the middle of a long, fastish stretch of 50 limit, so I can only hope that the bright sparks from the local estates prefer causing havoc in town rather than out in the green bits.

The speed limit applies to all vehicles. The same applies to red traffic lights and one way streets. It might be difficult identifying you if you are photographed though.

Is the wrong answer. If you want to check the relevant legislation or do a google search on urc for previous discussions you will find that speed limits do not apply to bicycles. The legislation is quite specific and applies only to motor vehicles.

I stand corrected. I had a look at some of the legislation on the .gov website. The catch all:-
28. A person who rides a cycle on a road recklessly is guilty of an offence.In this section "road" includes a bridleway. Careless, and inconsiderate, cycling.
29. If a person rides a cycle on a road without due care and attention, or without reasonable consideration for other persons using the road, he is guilty of an offence.In this section "road" includes a bridleway.
