Record Annoying Click

I recently had the same problem and went through all the things you've tried ( and more) to
eliminate the noise. Finally, the culprit turned out to be the stupid Speedplay X-3 pedals. I put my
trusty old X-1's back on and that eliminated the noise immediately. Try the pedals...

I have seen excatly the ame with Time magnesium pro pedals. the fix was silicone spray

Clicks & creaks on bikes are notoriously difficult to track down. I would certainly check &
reseat the pedals, cranks, BB and probably the handlebars & stem as well. I would try a different
set of wheels. It might even be a loose spoke. I would also have a good look at the chain. I
spent ages trying to find a click last year only for it to be one of the rollers on the chain
having broken in half.

I had one of these irregular clicks. If it only occurs when you are seated clean and grease the
saddle rails.

I have been told to use Teflon (sp?) tape on the BB threads. Course; my problem turned out to be in
the fame and I got a new one :oD. But with ten thousand miles I doubt your bike is in warrantee or
it is the weight of your legs creating the problem for the bike.

Also a wee bit of lube on the opitside of the freehub body and ensure the cogset lockring is TIGHT.

Pedals are a very common place for noise as well.

Also ensure the chainring bolts as well as the flats on the crank where the rings live have a little
grasso on them.

Irregular with regularity perhaps? Does it come always on the downstroke on one side but not on
every downstroke? If so, you are talking about a cassette, chain or spoke problem. Got a spare set
of wheels you can temporarily throw on for diagnostic purposes? Or an old (or a buddy's) chain? I
had a very similar problem which turned out to be the cassette. Well, ok, it was the cassette
(dirty), my headset (dirty and dry) and an insufficiently tightened front QR. Made for a whole
passel o' creakage which drove me goofy.

I did silence them all, however. Blessed silence - the joy of riding a properly tuned and
functioning bicycle is nearly singular in this world. Guess I just need to do more PM.

A new chain is a cheap experiment, you'll need it eventually anyway.

ditto that. my set has excessive clearance between the cassette carriers and the freehub body that
causes a clicking that drives me NUTS. a little grease on the outside of the freehub body seems to
take care of it temporarily, but i wish this outrageously expensive hub/cassette set was half as
quiet as my 105 setup. (total cost for wheel, spokes, hub and cassete: $80!)

also: a schmear of grease on the face of the inner carrier where it meets the outer carrier
couldn't hurt.

was the chainstay cracked through at the dropout. Ruined cycling on my vacation.

Okay. I gotta clean my bike up and get rid of that noise!

Everything looks in good shape...no frame parts coming apart. But I'm going to exorcise that noise!

Thanks (to you and everyone else who replied) for the suggestions. I'll try a Wipperman chain and
new Frog cleats to start with since I torqued everything to Campy directions and greased the freehub
body from the start. Might as well take the rings off and grease those bolts and flats too...

have solved the problem.
