  1. I seem to remember a wheel builder a while back recommending spoke nipple washers in certain
applications. Can anyone enlighten me as to when these would be used and where to get them if
needed? Are they used on rims w/ no eyelets? TIA andy

  2. That might have been me. I use nipple washers under the nipples on rims without ferrules where I
know spoke tension will be high. It prevents pullout and fine cracks from developing around the
nipple holes. I see this happen a lot. I use aluminum washers with a 1/8" hole. I personally prefer
TRW pop-rivet washers. A box of a gajillion is about $5. Add 1mm to your spoke length calc.

Spoke washers perhaps? Used for older, many times built hubs or some low end ones with great big
    spoke holes(?)-

    Sapim does make nipple washers:

I'll leave it to others to say whether these are a good idea. But I do wonder why Sapim makes them
in steel. Wouldn't you want something softer so that the nipples would bed in?

  8. PJW recommends using the with new DT spokes. He has an article explaining why.

No! He's talking about spoke washers that go between the spoke head and the hub flange. BTW, the
"new" long-elbow DT spokes (that were out a couple of years ago) have reverted back close to the
    "old" design.
